After decades of suffering in the LA Zoo’s inadequate conditions, Billy and Tina have now been forced to endure another impoverished existence in Tulsa Zoo’s barren, crowded exhibit. Both the Los Angeles and Tulsa Zoos have been placed on the 10 Worst Zoos for Elephants list. The day before the LA Zoo announced the elephants' secret transfer, the Nonhuman Rights Project filed a lawsuit seeking Billy and Tina's right to liberty, detailing how they had been unlawfully confined in LA and would continue to be unlawfully confined in Tulsa. This lawsuit is ongoing. Now, they are languishing in another impoverished zoo exhibit instead of healing in the wide open spaces of a sanctuary where they belong. We’re calling on Angelenos to urgently contact their councilmembers to review sanctuary options for Billy and Tina.”
