Maitland Mental Health Rehabilitation Project, a 86,000-square-foot inpatient facility, embraces culturally significant design features, natural materials, and open layouts to deliver a new home for mental health services.
Bates Smart, the architect and interior design firm on the project, designed the campus to integrate passively with its landscape setting—between escarpment and wetland—offering visual and physical connection to nature throughout the facility.
Cedars-Sinai’s Breast Imaging Center, adjacent to Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital in Marina Del Rey, Calif., delivers a wellness-focused atmosphere for mammograms, biopsies, and diagnostic imaging services.
Abramson Architects designed the reimagined space as a part of Cedars-Sinai’s larger strategy to meet patients where they are, both geographically and through the values and expectations of a younger, digitally native patient base.

The 2025 Healthcare Design Remodel/Renovation competition is accepting submissions!
Submitted project entries for the 16th annual awards program are due August 13.
The awards program focuses on renovations of single spaces within larger healthcare facilities or standalone specialty centers, including patient units, clinics, departments, specialty care centers, lobby/entry spaces, dining, respite, and other public areas.
