Law enforcement su***de has claimed the lives of 1,287 public safety personnel nationwide between 2016 and 2022, according to a report by CNA Corporation, a nonpartisan research organization, and First H.E.L.P., a non-profit that tracks law enforcement su***des. The actual number of su***des is most likely larger, but it’s an underreported statistic, First H.E.L.P. founder Karen Solomon told CNN.
“Like a bomb going off.” That’s how Thomas McNeese, who heads the wellness program at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Houston, describes the aftermath of the fourth su***de connected to the department in the span of six weeks.

Fireworks aren't the only explosions on the 4th of July. For some, it's a battle of wills, a struggle to protect their sobriety.
When the weekend rolls around, the barbecues light up, beers are popped open, and the festive atmosphere is charged with potential triggers. Amidst the revelry, keeping sobriety can feel like walking a tightrope.
But here's an unconventional thought: What if we flip the narrative? Instead of seeing the 4th of July as a challenge to sobriety, let's view it as an opportunity to celebrate freedom - the freedom from addiction.
Let's set a new tradition. A toast to the strength it takes to stay sober. Celebrate the resilience and the fight that goes into every single day of recovery. Because isn't that what Independence Day is all about? Freedom, resilience, and the ability to transform ourselves.
This 4th of July, let's honor those who are in this fight, by acknowledging their battles, their triumphs, and their enduring strength.
Join me in raising a glass (of sparkling water) to them. To us. To freedom.
Let's redefine the way we celebrate. And in doing so, let's help protect the sobriety of those who need it the most.
Here's to a happy, sober, and meaningful 4th of July. 🎆🎇
Share this post if you stand for a sober celebration of freedom this Independence Day.

PTSD: Beyond the Obvious
We all know the basics of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but there's more to this mental health condition than meets the eye.
1. Unusual Triggers
Simple, everyday sounds or smells can trigger intense PTSD reactions, sometimes without the individual even realizing it.
2. Secondary PTSD
Close family members and friends can develop symptoms similar to PTSD, called secondary PTSD, as a result of empathizing with their loved one's trauma.
3. Memory Gaps
PTSD sufferers may experience memory gaps, making it difficult to recall specific details about their traumatic event.
4. Unconscious Coping
Some PTSD sufferers unconsciously adopt coping mechanisms like emotional numbing, which can make it difficult to connect with others.
5. Misdiagnosis
PTSD symptoms often overlap with other mental health disorders, leading to misdiagnosis and ineffective treatment plans.
Understanding these lesser-known aspects of PTSD can help us better support those affected and foster more empathetic conversations around mental health.
Is there a lesser-known fact about PTSD that has surprised you? Share it in the comments below! Let's raise awareness together.
