For over 50 years, Journal of the West has been and remains an illustrated quarterly devoted to the history and culture of the American West.

Hi all! Journal of the West is looking for articles to fill out upcoming theme issues on a number of important topics:

-Natives and Warfare in the West
-Religion in the West
-Water and the West
-Aerospace and the West
-Asian Peoples in the West
-Coffee in the West
-Historiography of the West
-Indigenous Education in the West
-Music in the West
-The Pacific and the West
-Political Movements in the West
-Sustainability and the West

If you have an article (or an idea that could be turned into an article fairly quickly) in any of these subject areas, please contact us at [email protected]!

Also, aside from the theme section articles the Journal publishes a number of non-thematic articles in each issue's "About the West" section. The "Western Forum" section opens each issue with a shorter, more opinion-based, thought-provoking article. Please contact us if you have an idea or an article that may be provocative while remaining academically rigorous for this section. Please contact us at [email protected] if have an article that you would like to submit for consideration.

Finally, if you have an idea for a future theme issue of the Journal, the knowledge and desire to edit the issue, and know of contributors who would like to write articles for such an issue, contact us at [email protected] as well!

Journal of the West, which has been publishing outstanding articles and theme issues on the history of the American West for over fifty years, is always looking for well researched, academically rigorous, but accessible articles that would benefit both the Western historical profession and society in the American West in general.

Each issue of the Journal is highlighted by a series of articles on a theme central to the history and life of the region. Please contact us at [email protected] if you have an idea for a future theme issue of the Journal, the knowledge and desire to edit the issue, and know of contributors who would like to write articles for such an issue.

Aside from the theme section articles, the Journal publishes a number of non-thematic articles in each issue's "About the West" section. The "Western Forum" section opens each issue with a shorter, more opinion-based, thought-provoking article. Please contact us if you have an idea or an article that may be provocative while remaining academically rigorous for this section. Please contact us at [email protected] if have an article that you would like to submit for consideration.

There is no minimum or maximum page length for submissions; about 5,000 words is typical.
