Bill T**h is still just damn funny. Read our Q&A with T**h, whose daft approach to the news earned him a cult following on “Channel 17 news early in the morning” in the ’70s and ’80s.

Bill T**h is still just damn funny. If that doesn’t immediately bring up a file in your memory banks, remember the 1970s, when Ted Turner owned Channel 17 in Atlanta, which later he branded The Superstation. T**h is the guy whose daft approach to the news earned him a cult following on “Channel ...

If you haven’t been vaccinated yet because you’re concerned about potential costs associated with the shot, keep these three facts in mind as you navigate the healthcare system.

If you’ve received an expensive medical bill related to testing or treatment for COVID-19, you’re not alone. Reports of high or unusual fees associated with the coronavirus can be attributed to a combination of confusion and a lack of federal oversight since the start of the pandemic. Enough so ...

In his second monthly feature, Kelly McCoy takes us back to The Omni and remembers some great shows and the iconic venue's unique acoustics. Enjoy and please share!

In 1972, a new structure appeared downtown. It was called the Omni.

This Omni Complex, now home to State Farm Arena and CNN Center, had everything in those days from ice skating, a Burt Reynolds restaurant, a game arcade to restaurants and bars.

To say it was different from anything making up a part of Atlanta’s cityscape, is beyond an understatement. It definitely was what the city needed to begin meeting the entertainment demands from a growing public…locally, and statewide.

The Omni addition had a significant impact on Atlanta becoming a major city. The Omni Coliseum could host any and every kind of event imaginable, from tractor pulls to Big Bird to every major music act touring America. Not to mention the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Our contributor Kathy Dean writes about how a yoga practice can help us stay strong (and sane) during these crazy days.

Frani Green found yoga in 1985 and felt the calling to teach it in 1993. The 60-year-old has a background in theater and dance. She has studied different styles of yoga and has earned several certifications.

Through the years, she has instructed people of all sizes and shapes, and at all levels of ability. “I’ve taught deaf people, blind people, kids, teens, young people, old people and people with disabilities….so all people,” she said.

“The benefits of yoga are different for different people,” Green explained. “I teach yoga to seniors for strength, balance and overall wellness. This practice is paramount to our health, especially as we age, to keep our hips, knees and core strong.”

Here's a great column by our own Joe Earle that is running on our sister site, Reporter Newspapers.

Joe spent time with Janice R. Blumberg the day after Georgia's historic runoff elections and they discussed the meaning of those results as even more history unfolded before their eyes at the US Capitol.

Joe weaves a nice story that connects the generations of Atlanta's racial, political and religious history.

As Janice Rothschild Blumberg saw it, Jan. 6, 2021, started out as a very fine day. It was the day after the runoff election and, as the votes were counted, Blumberg was rooting for the two Georgia Democrats running for U.S. Senate. By early that afternoon, Raphael Warnock had claimed election as th...

We are excited to join with legendary Atlanta DJ Kelly McCoy to launch "From the Crates," a new monthly feature in Atlanta Senior Life that examines the Atlanta Music scene from the 1970s through the '80s and '90s from his front-row seat behind some of our city's most powerful microphones, including B98.5FM and WQXI (the inspiration for WKRP in Cincinnati).

In his first column, Kelly looks back at the early days of the Chastain Park Amphitheater, including his backstage photo-op with Whitney Houston at her 21st birthday party (photo below).

“Little did we know that many years later our daughters would go to elementary and middle school together,” McCoy said. “Her daughter, ‘Krissi,’ as the kids called her, is a year younger than my daughter Courtney. We saw Bobby [Brown] and Whitney quite often doing family things and supporting their child. No bodyguards, no drugs...just being normal.”

From our sister publication, Atlanta Intown.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said over the last week that 102,183 doses of the vaccine had been administered, which was a 97% increase over the week before. He said CVS and Walgreens were on track to have all nursing home residents and staff inoculated by the end of the month and the state was prepared to step in and assist if necessary.

The governor said there are 1.3 million seniors and 536,000 healthcare workers in the state who need to be vaccinated. The state is being allocated 120,000 doses per week, 40,000 of which are withheld and sent to CVS and Walgreens to vaccinate nursing home residents and staff.

“I would prefer an ample supply and vaccinate everyone immediately, but that is not possible,” Kemp said.

From our sister publication, Atlanta Intown, here's a story on a great group that's dedicated to keeping young women healthy and active. If you have granddaughters, make sure they know about Girls On The Run Atlanta.

“Now more than ever girls really need us and we’re here for them,” GOTR Atlanta Executive Director Lea Rolfes said. “We have the quality, research-based curriculum that intentionally addresses the challenges of being a girl, COVID-19 or not.”

Girls’ confidence drops about twice as much as boys' during adolescence and now COVID-19 has dramatically increased the number of teen girls reporting loneliness and isolation. Thankfully, Girls on the Run of Atlanta (GOTR Atlanta) pivoted during the pandemic to still offer girls in third to eight...

Atlanta physician Dr. Dominic Mack has focused for years on the eradication of health disparities. Now, he’s using that expertise in the battle against the pandemic.

The Stone Mountain resident, who leads the National Center for Primary Care at the Morehouse School of Medicine, now also directs the National COVID-19 Resiliency Network, a cooperative agreement between the medical school and the Office of Minority Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

In this role, Mack is assembling local, state and national partners to reduce the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable populations, including minority groups, seniors, the incarcerated, and people with disabilities.
