Anderson as a weekly, The Newport Plain Talk has been in continuous publication serving the residents of Cocke and surrounding counties. A prize-winning newspaper, it and its staff have received numerous awards throughout the years for reporting, photography, and design. in the 1960s. Later, the newspaper merged with the now-defunct Cocke County Banner, after its acquisition by Jones. After being

under the Jones Media banner for several decades, the group was purchased by Adams Publishing Company on Sept. 1, 2016. It continues to operate today as a bi-weekly publication owned by Adams Publishing Group. The Publisher is Duane Uhls. Dave Ruthenberg serves as Managing Editor, Jake Nichols is Sports Editor and Kathy Hemsworth is News Editor.
