Should you ask your audience for ratings and reviews???

For years, I've stood against this. ' alogrithm prioritizes followers/subscribers when ranking shows. But the rankings don't matter much anyway, as shows are primarily discovered by Google search, social media and worth of mouth.

However, with taking the lead in podcast discovery AND consumption, THEIR algorithm does take ratings and reviews into account. And YouTube does a much better job at suggesting related content to listeners. For this platform, yes, you should ask for ratings and reviews. Pro Tip: Ask at the end of your show, AFTER you've provided your listener/viewer with great content.

So the question becomes: Which is the priority for your show - Apple/Spotify/Audio Podcasts or YouTube? Either is fine - but only ask for the ratings and reviews if you're more focused on your YouTube growth.

About Jag

I create podcasts for individuals, businesses, and nonprofits. As a 15 year radio veteran, I leverage my experience in creating and editing audio, as well as coaching talent, to create compelling podcasts from scratch for people and businesses in Metro Detroit and beyond.

I worked on the air for 15 years in Vermont, Detroit, New Orleans, and back to Detroit. As an on-air personality, I also became a social media personality. Creating content for the web and social platforms became equally as important as what came out of the speakers. Following my radio career, I went on to become a social media manager.

Detroit is my adopted home, but I’m happy to take on projects for anyone, anywhere. Message me on this page, send an email to [email protected], or give me a call at 313-757-2JAG (2524).
