A little Springfield history has been hiding in plain sight.

Renovations at 516 S. Main Street, just off the Robertson County Courthouse square, recently exposed this old “Fann’s Fashion Shoppe” sign. The building dates to around the 1890s and was identified in historic records as the former Pitt Brothers Wholesale and Retail Wh***ey House. By 1979, it was listed as the Georgia Girl’s Fashions Building.

We haven’t yet been able to pin down exactly when Ann’s Fashion Shoppe operated there, but the sign appears to have been hidden behind later renovations for decades. If you know, post it in comments below.

And as for what’s coming next? What we’ve heard is that The Tennessee Dough Boys, a Southern pizzeria and biscuit house, is going in at 518 S. Main Street.

HAPPENING NOW: Three Fire/Smoke-Related Calls
First responders are currently responding to three separate fire/smoke-related calls across the area.

ADAMS: 2000 block of Port Royal Road — Smoke investigation involving white smoke reportedly coming from a barn. The caller is reportedly not from the area.

PORTLAND: 6000 block of Highland Road — A combine is reportedly on fire and has also ignited a field. Mutual aid has been requested.

ROBERTSON COUNTY: 5400 block of Highway 431 North — Smoke investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
Watch for first responders en route and in the roadway, and expect possible traffic delays in these areas.
