👏 Broad Support for Better North Bridge! 👏

We have some great news! This morning, Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments’ Charleston Area Transportation Study (CHATS) Policy Committee* approved a resolution that "encourages SCDOT to include pedestrian and bicycle accommodations in the upgrade of the SC-7 (Cosgrove Avenue) bridge, and request SCDOT consider replacement of the facility to achieve this regional priority to provide safe accommodations for the walking, bicycling and motoring public."

👍 This action is important right now, as SCDOT has added the North Bridge (SC-7 or Cosgrove Avenue Bridge), its interchanges, and the I-26 overpass to their Bridge Program List. While they still haven't decided yet if they will rehabilitate or replace the bridge and associated crossings, they received strong encouragement this morning that the decision must provide bicycle and pedestrian access.

Not only did this resolution pass unanimously, but when the motion was made, it received several "seconds" in support. The CHATS Policy Committee passed this resolution to make its position clearly known on safe access for all users of the North Bridge. Thank you, CHATS! 💪

Stay tuned for SCDOT's decision on whether they will replace or rehab the bridge!

*CHATS is our tricounty metropolitan planning organization that is responsible for carrying out the urban transportation planning process. The Policy Committee Board governs CHATS, and represents government and transportation-related organizations from throughout the 800 square mile study area.

I photographed Comet Lemmon tonight. It wasn’t visible with the naked eye, but a long exposure with my Nikon brought it out.

One of our troopers, Master Trooper Wayne H. LaBounty, was hit by a vehicle this morning while performing a traffic stop in Lexington County. Master Trooper LaBounty, a 40-year law enforcement veteran, was airlifted to Prisma Health in serious condition. We ask that everyone keeps him in your prayers as he continues to recover. For questions regarding the investigation, is handling due to Lexington County Sheriff's Department’s vehicle involvement in the incident.

This is now the third SC Highway Patrol trooper to be injured or killed in the last month:
1) Trooper First Class Dennis D. Ricks: Died from injuries on August 13, 2025.

2) Senior Trooper Mitchell Williams Jr.: Recovering at home from injuries sustained this past Sunday, September 7.

3) Master Trooper Wayne H. LaBounty: In serious condition at the hospital from injuries sustained this morning, September 9.

We are pleading with the public to slow down, move over for blue lights, and never drive impaired.
