Too much fun not to share ... a great family activity for this special weekend in Scott! Visitors too!!!
Hey! I Saw Your Picture at the Scott Library! By: Theresa Rohloff
This year, take advantage as the Boudin Festival nears by joining fun activities underway at Lafayette West Regional Library in Scott located at the corner of Apollo Road and Old Spanish Trail. There is a wave of excitement associated with the festival that carries over to all facets of businesses and that includes our library.
Residents and visitors alike will want to check out the “Scott Snapshots Challenge” to be among those whose happy pictures go on display to brighten the white wall as you enter at 501 Old Spanish Trail in Scott. According to Branch Manager Devin Melancon, the fun runs through the month of March.
“Pick up a list of the suggested points to visit from West Regional Library, Scott City Hall, or download it at lafayettepubliclibrary.org,” encourages Melancon. “It includes a short bit of trivia about boudin and its importance to Scott, the history of Scott and the role that transportation plays in Scott’s development. When visitors come to the library in Scott, they will see that its interior and architectural design boast transportation as its dominant theme.
The online list can be found at the lafayettepubliclibrary.org website. Five subjects are included for participants to locate and take a snapshot or selfie. The photos are due by Friday, March 29. Submit them to [email protected] so if need be, you could get a tech savvy friend or youngster to help submit if it’s a challenge. The list has five significant points of interest to include for your set of five photos, for example, the first is to make yourself the “I” in the BOUD_N markers at either Scott City Hall or Maison de Begnaud. Another is your photo with one of the whimsical pig statues in town; others are places of Scott history or transportation themes.
Get in the festival mood with lots of playtime fun and interesting books at the library. The challenge is open to all ages. The pictures received will be made into a collage for display on West Regional Library, bringing color to the entrance hall wall and participants will receive a prize. Take part today and show us what Scott looks like to you.

Easy to distinguish 2024 from 2023 Scott Mardi Gras parades due to weather. 2023 all sunshine and blue skies! 2024 may well be the wettest (though not the coldest) Scott parade ever!

The Great Scott Herald Story

The Great Scott Herald had completed its 10th year as a quarterly newsletter. After the test pilot within the Community Chronicles in 2015, the Herald became under its umbrella in Spring! It now be seen within the Community Chronicles 40-page spread with a reliable input from the city and stories that highlight Scott happenings and interests among those from Arnaudville, Duson, Carencro, Grand Coteau, North Lafayette and Sunset! Community Chronicles has a distribution of 6000 and online readership of 10000. Every month, the Chronicles features a human interest story about someone within the readership area. We think the Scott Herald partnership made sense and opened opportunity and broadened the readership for the community and local businesses. The best place for Scott news is where Positive News sets the tone. Enjoy!

The first issue of The Great Scott Herald was published in August 2004. It was an answer to then-Councilman Purvis Morrison’s suggestion that the city have a communication that would concentrate on events and activities within the city. The first issue was a slender six-page publication that grew to a 14-page production before it morphed into a segment of the Chronicles. Regular columns included the input from the city’s mayor “From City Hall” and the “Chiefs’ Dispatch.” It also included a quarterly calendar from its first issue and school blackboard by the last year. The newsletter was always produced by Hulco Printing and layout was always coordinated with one of their graphic designers. Melody Gilcrease was especially helpful in the smooth coordination between producing the Herald and getting it published, while members of the LLC board under which the newsletter was first established, Purvis Morrison and Paul Murphy Boudreaux, helped with continuing the operations.

Thank you all for a successful product that many enjoy and liked to share. As you see, it continues to connect with people in Scott and the surrounding communities.
