This family history contains the known genealogy of Mett Everett Blalock and Iva Lillian Ellis, traced in all lines to the remotest date available. At Loch Lomond, Scotland, the Colquhouns, ancestors of my grandfather Mett Everett Blalock, were mortal enemies of the McFarland ancestors of my grandmother Iva Lillian Ellis. Mett and Iva’s marriage ended in a bitter divorce. Were they doomed from the beginning? Mett and Iva certainly did not know of the ancient beginnings of their family lines; from the lands of the Middle East to the iron mining fields of Germany; and from the Picts of Caledonia and the Vikings of Norway to the Royal Thrones of Ireland, Scotland and England.
Alas, Mett enjoyed none of the wealth and privilege of royalty. Some of Mett’s German ancestors were iron miners who were recruited by Governor Alexander Spotswood to form the Germanna Colony of Virginia. Germanna became a place inhabited by immigrant Germans, indentured servants and enslaved laborers. It is also a place long inhabited by indigenous peoples long before the 1714 fort and continuing well after. Mett’s most immediate ancestors made a fortune mining gold in Oregon and then lost it in the courts.
Iva’s life was stolen away by a .38 bullet. Her ancestors were much more elusive, hailing primarily from England, except for the infamous clan of McFarland’s at Loch Lomond, Scotland. Primarily found in Volume Two, more of Iva's family tree is still waiting to be found by future genealogists.
Volume 2 is still on the editor's desk {that's me!) and will be published in the not too distant future.
