I have been Coaching people professionally through my two companies, The Vision Catalyst Group & Fierce Life Now, for the better part of 25 years. Long before the Term “Life Coach” even existed. My foremost goal for my Coaching is to give each of my Clients the TOOLS and GUIDANCE they need to achieve their “Most Incredible Life”! And then to gently (or sternly if necessary) prod them to do the work!
My Coaching Clients tell me that having a supportive yet demanding Coach who guides, encourages, and PUSHES them while simultaneously holding them fully accountable (aka calling them on their BS sometimes) is the factor that has had the most impact on their ability to change, grow, and achieve success.
All that to say I genuinely appreciate the incredible work of one of my primary VO Coaches, David Rosenthal, the CEO of Global Voice Acting Academy! I had another AMAZING Coach-Led-Workout with David this morning.
I could tell that David was getting a little frustrated with Coaching me about the SAME POINT for probably the fourth or fifth time during our workouts. What David’s (well disguised) frustration tells me is:
1) He genuinely cares about me becoming skilled enough to truly reach the pinnacle of the success I can achieve as a Voice Talent, and 2) He is not going to allow me to “cruise” through the process without working, growing, and actually applying his Coaching every day!
The morale of this story is threefold… If you are SERIOUS about your VO Career: 1) Do the damn work… 2) If you haven’t yet joined GVAA and taken the opportunity to work directly with David and some of the other amazing GVAA coaches, then do it NOW (https://GlobalVoiceAcademy.com)… 3) Do the damn work!
PS: David’s Coaching Point? “SMILE when you’re doing your reads! It brings a sense of authenticity, genuine emotion, and connection with your audience and it removes the sense that I am simply using my ‘nice voice’ and ‘performing’ my scripts!” In order to help me stay on point with that guidance, as a perrenial reminder, I’ve hung the below picture in my recording booth, where I CAN’T HELP but see it every time I go to read scripts!! Thanks again Coach David for holding me ACCOUNTABLE!!
