The small community of Harmony was a bit larger on the morning of Saturday, September 20, 2025, when close to 100 people gathered at the Harmony Community Park to memorialize two individuals who had big impacts on county youth, Roger Layton and Sarah Mueller. The ball field at the park is now named after Layton, who served as a softball coach for many years, and the pavilion at the park honors Mueller, who served as a Character Counts coach at Preston Elementary School for many years. Caroline Review Senior Correspondent Connie Connolly reports on the gathering and the legacy of Layton and Mueller.

Farmers in Caroline County rely on science, technology, and good old fashion hard work to make their farms as successful as they can be. On Sunday, September 14, 2025, some farmers looked to faith to help them bring in their harvests as they participated in the Blessing of the Combines and Farm Equipment by the Bethesda Methodist Church in Preston. It was the second year the church held this event, as reported on by Melodie Prairie.

Caroline County Public Schools are celebrating Community School Coordinator Appreciation Week, recognizing the efforts of coordinators at each of the county schools. Part of a statewide initiative under Maryland’s Blueprint for Education, “community schools” is a designation that looks at poverty levels in school communities and seeks to provide support to those areas. Community School Coordinators help identify the gaps caused by poverty and provide services and opportunities to help close those gaps. Kennedy Thomason reports on the community schools designation here.

“Call in the dogs!” is a line heard in television and movies when someone is on the run from the law. In the next scene you see an article of clothing waived under the nose of a leashed dog, the dog takes a sniff, and off they go to find the missing scoundrel. But have you ever thought about the time and training involved, for animals and their handlers, in order for search and rescue efforts to be possible? Caroline Review Correspondent Kennedy Thomason recently interviewed Meghan Wade, Vice-President of Delmarva Search and Rescue to find out more about this organization and the work that goes into training for when duty calls.
