SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS EVENING 5-8PM

Another round of severe thunderstorms are possible this evening, with strong damaging winds, hail and a tornado or 2 can’t be ruled out completely. Time to watch for developments will be in the 4-8pm range.

Timing will be from 6-10pm

Strong damaging winds, hail and a low chance of a couple tornadoes are possible.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS!

Multiple severe thunderstorm warnings from Elgin down to Dwight. This line of storms is capable of producing winds of 60 mph or greater and Penny size hail. Frequent cloud to ground lightning as well.

Severe thunderstorm warnings issued

A line of storms moving to the east at 30 mph has now been severe warned that is a long I39. 60 to 70 mph winds and Penny size hail are possible.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has been issued for northern IL and NW IN until 8pm. A couple of tornadoes possible, hail up to the size of quarters, and wind gusts up to 70mph are also possible.

Rockford and Winnebago county residents:

With the possibility of severe weather today in far northern IL and southern Wisconsin, keep this information in mind!

❌Many of the sirens in Rockford and in the surrounding areas of Winnebago County are inoperable or broken still.

❌NOAA Weather Radio station KZZ-57 in Rockford at 162.475 MHz is also off the air as a critical component of the system has failed, and had to be sent out for repair. At this point, it should be assumed that it will not be back on the air for this event.

⚠️Outdoor Tornado Sirens are not required by state or federal law, so you will need to make sure you keep updated yourself on the weather - as these sirens that are down will not be fixed for a period of time still.

❗️Have your live weather alerts through your cell phone provider turned ON, as this may be the only way today to receive storm updates if out or away from a computer.

✅Of course we will post updates as well if needed.

9AM Weather Post for TODAY (2-7PM Timing)

A MCV will be entering the area today and could cause scattered storms in northern IL and southern Wisconsin.

Most people in northern IL will not see much of anything but there is a chance of a few supercells could develop and be capable of producing damaging winds, hail and brief tornadoes. Best chance of severe weather is north of the state line into Wisconsin up to Madison and Milwaukee.

If anything does pop up in northern IL, we will post updates as needed.

***NO LONGER VALID***TORNADO WATCH has been issued for northern IL until 11pm. A few tornadoes possible, hail up the size of Ping Pongs, and wind gusts up to 75mph are all possible.
