One of the most valuable materials and useful asset to settling this great country of ours—was rope—made from natural fibers. And kids can get some hands-on experience braiding rope at this year’s Caddo Gap Heritage Festival coming up this Saturday, October 4th from 9 till 4. The good folks from the Heritage House Museum of Montgomery County will be on hand to demonstrate this rare skill while showing kids how to operate this antique piece of equipment!
The Heritage House Museum is one of our historic treasures—and really, in my opinion, one of the BEST museums in the state of Arkansas. They really do an incredible job of highlighting the colorful history of Montgomery County. Indoor Exhibits include Forestry and Commercial Logging, General Store, Post Office, Barber Shop, Pharmacy, Church, School, Home Life, Quartz Crystal Mining, Lake Ouachita Fishing and Recreation, Military and Veterans, Family History, Genealogy, Photographs, Documents, Maps & more! But that’s not even scratching the surface! The grounds of the museum also hosts a restored log house, an exhibit barn full of tools (my favorite subject!), and an equipment shed as well as a sorghum cooking shed. And while we’re talking about sorghum, I won’t fail to mention the 16th annual Sorghum Festival the museum hosts coming up soon on Saturday, October 11th from 9 till 4. The Heritage House Museum is a great place for parents and/or grandparents to take your kids and learn all about what makes Montgomery County so special and significant to southwest Arkansas!
