THE HIDDEN DANGERS OF THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY: The Guadalupe River draws campers, tubers, and tourists every year, but as the deadly July 4th floods reminded us, this peaceful landscape hides a violent history.

Texas State University professor Dr. Kimberly Meitzen has spent years researching the Upper Guadalupe and says what makes the Hill Country beautiful also makes it deadly. “Every time I close my eyes, I just see the river. We spent so much time in it.”

From outdated floodplain maps to the growing impacts of climate change, Dr. Meitzen is sounding the alarm about life in Flash Flood Alley and calling for urgent action.
