SUN PUBLISHER Ben Chandler cuts the ribbon on the renovated Woodford Sun offices at 184 S. Main Street, following a one-year major renovation. The Sun will host an Open House to show off the new offices on Friday, September 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. All are welcome. The Sun has been owned by the Chandler family since 1942, when Gov. Albert B. “Happy” Chandler purchased it from the Aitchison Bowmar family, who, together with his brother Dan, founded the paper in 1868. In 1957, Ben’s father, Ben Chandler, Jr., became publisher and for decades wrote the respected weekly column, “Happy Landings.” His career was recognized in 2012 with induction to the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. Ben’s brother Whitney Chandler succeeded his father as publisher in 2016, but untimely passed in 2022, leaving Ben to take over.
