TRAFFIC ALERT: The city of Lufkin Street Department will temporarily close Lufkin Avenue between First Street and Cotton Square Thursday to accommodate utility work. Oncor Electric crews will be working in front of the Perry Building, and access in the area will be restricted during the operation. Please plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time. Pedestrian access may be limited near the work zone. Work is expected to be completed by end of day Thursday, weather permitting.

TRAFFIC ALERT: On Wednesday, the south lane of the eastbound side of Frank Avenue will be temporarily closed to accommodate the contractors in the demolition of the former jail facility adjacent to the roadway. City crews will close the designated lane at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with plans to reopen it at about 10 p.m. the same day. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and exercise caution near the work zone.

READY? OK! Check out a gallery of photos from the 41st Texas State Forest Festival’s East Texas Cheerleading & Pom/Dance Championships Sunday.
The Central High School cheerleaders came away with first place for their performance in the Varsity High School Division for 2-3A and 4A schools. Hudson High School finished second in that category, while Huntington High School finished third.
In the Middle School Division 3-5A and 6A category, Lufkin Middle School won first for its game day routine. Garrison High School won first place in the 1-1A and 2A division.
In the Middle School Division 2-3A and 4A category, Hudson Middle School won first for its performance, followed by Huntington Middle School, Central Junior High, Pineywoods Community Academy Middle School and Diboll Junior High.
