DJ XTC — Canada’s Original Vibe Curator
Over 40 years of experience | Greater Toronto Area
Everyone enjoys music — but not everyone has the instinct to shape it. Neal “XTC” McFarlane is a Scarborough-raised, Brampton-built DJ whose career spans five decades of genres, cultures, and unforgettable events. From vinyl beginnings to digital mastery, he’s become known across Canada as The Old School Guru — a respected DJ, educator, mentor, and radio personality with a legacy rooted in community and culture. HIS X·PERTISE
DJ XTC is fluent across eras and genres:
Old School • House • Drum ’n Bass • Jungle • Reggae • Classic Rock • Nu-Disco • Top 40 • Latin • Country • Freestyle • Funk • Soul • R&B
HIS X·AMPLES
Growing up in Scarborough, Neal’s early influences came from the music always playing in his home — Earth, Wind & Fire, Percy Sledge, Kool & The Gang, Kenny Rogers and more. He earned his reputation as a go-to party DJ across Brampton, Malton, and Mississauga, where his house-party sets were legendary and eventually led to multiple local residencies. HIS X·PERIENCE — Clubs, Culture & Project Bounce
The Club Era
In the ’80s and early ’90s, DJ XTC became a familiar name across some of the GTA’s most iconic nightlife venues, including:
Astrolight • Superstars • The World • NRG • Barracuda • The Concert Hall
These rooms shaped a generation of DJs — and XTC held his own in all of them, known for tight mixes, crowd control and deep musical knowledge. The Project Bounce Era
In the ’90s, DJ XTC also became one of the defining voices of Project Bounce, Toronto’s legendary underground station. His signature segment, Red Light Radio, delivered:
Old School classics
Classic Hip Hop
Slow Jams for the late-night mood
Listeners across Scarborough, Brampton, Mississauga, and the West End tuned in religiously. During this era, he:
Spotlighted foundational Old School and Classic Hip Hop
Curated slow jams that became a GTA signature
Built a loyal late-night following
Stayed on-air even while focusing on family life
Continued to shape the city's underground music culture
He also owned Brampton’s iconic all-ages venue Club 404, which hosted Maestro Fresh-Wes, Michie Mee, Redhead Kingpin, and more. HIS X·CELLENCE
Working alongside partners like Hyped Entertainment and United Force, DJ XTC produced sought-after urban and Caribbean-inspired serial events, including:
X Marks The Spot • Tribal Council • Club 404 Ol Skool Reunion • New Jack Spring • Diggin’ In The Crates
These events celebrate the ’60s through 2000s and continue to resonate with long-time fans across the GTA. As a mentor and collaborator, XTC continues to uplift the next generation of DJs, MCs, and music creatives. RADIO SHOWS & WEEKLY LINE-UP
