“We focus so much on the health and well-being of our horses, and yet sometimes I think we forget about some of the more subtle yet super important key points in our training,” said Hesslink, who is well into a successful summer season at Splitrock and Lake Placid. “GumBits are a great way to not only reward horses for all they do for us, but also naturally release tension in their mouths and bodies. We do so much of the communication in riding via the bit; horses should learn it is a positive thing and that being soft in the mouth will prevent them from being tense in other parts of the body. All of my horses love them and we use them regularly both training and at the show.”
American Geoffrey Hesslink is one of the hunter world’s most decorated riders, bringing art and focus to his performances in arenas across the country. With the heart of the hunters being rhythm, balance, elegance, and jumping technique, Hesslink uses GumBits to keep his horses soft, supple, and comfortable in their most important point of communication with the rider: their mouths.
