"Understanding, particularly with a spouse or partner—someone that you are interacting with a lot—if you two see things differently or experience things differently..." 💭

This week's episode reminded us that communication struggles often aren't about what we're saying—they're about how different brains process information.

When you understand whether someone is a matcher or mismatcher, a similarity-spotter or difference-finder, suddenly those frustrating conversations start making sense.

What communication pattern have you noticed in yourself or someone you love? Drop a comment below! 👇

Ever suggest dinner plans and get an instant "no" before your partner has even thought about it? Or notice yourself automatically pushing back on ideas, even ones you might actually like?

In today’s new episode of Getting to Good Enough, we’re talking about matchers and mismatchers, and the people who naturally spot similarities vs. differences. We explore how these patterns show up in everyday conversations, how they connect to perfectionism, and how a few small shifts can make communication feel so much easier.

We share real-life examples, simple phrases you can try (like “I just want you to be excited, not give feedback” and “I’m just venting, not looking for solutions”), and ways to work *with* your wiring instead of against it.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by feeling misunderstood (or by someone always saying no), this episode is for you.

Saturday reflection: What can you actually do about it?

This week, take a moment to reflect on this question: When you catch yourself spinning out about an uncertain future, ask yourself, "What can I actually do about this right now?"

If there's an action you can take, take it. Make your contingency plans. Think through the what-ifs. Do what you can control.

Then practice letting go of the rest. Even if just for today.

You don't have to live in every possible future at once. You don't have to have all the answers. You just have to come back to this moment, as many times as you need to.

And that's enough.

How are you navigating uncertainty in your own life right now? We'd love to hear from you. Reply below or reach out at gettingtogoodenough.com.

It's here! Episode 269: Living in the Gap Between Uncertainty and Hope

New episode is live and we're getting real about one of the hardest places to live—that exhausting space between hope and fear.

Discussion topics include:
- Shannon's journey facing another shoulder surgery just weeks after recovery
- Janine navigating travel uncertainty during a government shutdown
- Why sometimes facing the unknown is better than living in limbo
- Strategies for staying present when the future feels uncertain
- How to prepare for multiple futures without living in all of them at once

The bottom line? You don't have to do uncertainty perfectly. Identify what you can actually control, do that, then practice letting go of the rest. Even if just for today.

Head over to our website or your favorite podcast platform to listen. And we'd love to hear how you're navigating your own uncertainties! Reply to this post or reach out at gettingtogoodenough.com.

Ever feel stuck between hoping for the best and preparing for the worst?

That gap between hope and fear? It's exhausting. And uncertainty comes in all sizes—whether you're facing major surgery or travel delays during a government shutdown.

In this week's episode, we're getting real about living in that uncomfortable in-between space. Shannon shares what it's like to face another shoulder surgery just weeks after getting out of her immobilizing brace. Janine talks about navigating her own uncertainty with travel plans that might get disrupted.

Here's what we learned: You don't have to live in every possible future at once. You can prepare for what you can control, and then practice letting go of the rest.

New episode drops Thursday. Come join us for some real talk about managing uncertainty, staying present, and finding humor in the middle of it all.

What's one small win you can celebrate today, even if you're nowhere near the finish line?

In this week's episode, Shannon shared the two things she's most excited to do again: put her hair up and wear her necklace. After five and a half weeks of recovery, these aren't small things—they're proof of progress.

We often wait until we've "made it" to celebrate. But what if we celebrated every step along the way instead? The night you sleep without the brace. The day you can do a little more. The moment you realize you're stronger than you were yesterday.

Recovery isn't linear, and neither is life. Whether you're navigating a health challenge, a career setback, or just a season that feels harder than expected, "good enough" is your permission slip to meet yourself where you are—not where you think you should be.

This week's bottom line: Don't wait for the finish line to celebrate. Mark the milestones. Acknowledge the progress. You're doing better than you think.

What's your small win this week? We'd love to hear from you. 💚

Episode 268 is LIVE! 🎙️

We're back together after five and a half weeks apart, and we're getting real about what happens when life doesn't go according to plan.

Shannon's navigating shoulder surgery recovery while we're rebooting the podcast, and honestly? It's been a masterclass in embracing "good enough."

What we're talking about:
• Life in a gunslinger brace (yes, that's really what it's called!)
• The irony of recording episodes about morning routines right before surgery
• Celebrating the smallest wins (putting your hair up = major victory)
• Why having something to look forward to matters during hard times
• Moving forward with uncertainty

This episode is about resilience, humor, and remembering that progress—not perfection—is what counts. New episodes drop every Thursday. Listen now on your favorite podcast platform or head to the link in the comments! 🎧

Here's something we talked about in this week's episode that stuck with us: the power of acknowledging what sucks before jumping to gratitude.

Janine had one of those days where everything went wrong—the groomer mix-up, the doctor's appointment disaster, the chiropractor cancellation, the ink stain. And instead of forcing positivity, Shannon offered something more honest: "Yes, this really sucks, AND you're fortunate in these ways."

That "yes, and..." approach? It's a game-changer. It lets you hold both truths at once without the cognitive dissonance that comes from skipping straight to gratitude.

We also talked about the almost-magical shift that happens when you move your body. Even 30 seconds of jumping and shaking can reset your energy. Or calling a friend for a laugh. Or taking a moment with something warm to drink.

The bottom line: bad days happen to everyone. You can't just walk away from them. But you also don't have to let them steamroll you. The key is acknowledging what's hard while actively shifting your perspective to what matters.

What's your go-to move when everything feels like it's falling apart? We'd love to hear what works for you! 💙

We've all been there—when everything seems to go wrong and you're stuck in a spiral of frustration. But what if you could turn it around without just waiting it out or forcing fake gratitude?

In today's Best Of episode, we're revisiting one of our favorites from 2021: Making a Bad Day Better: 5 Self-Compassion Strategies.

Janine shares her real-time terrible, horrible, no good very bad day, and Shannon offers practical self-compassion strategies to shift your perspective and reset your energy.

What we talk about:
- Janine's comedy of errors: the groomer mix-up, the doctor's appointment disaster, and the chiropractor cancellation
- The restaurant analogy: when things start bad, they often stay bad
- Creating a mid-day reset to shift your trajectory
- The three-part response: wallowing, gratitude journaling, and knitting
- The power of "yes, and...": acknowledging what sucks before adding gratitude
- Why gratitude alone doesn't work without acknowledgment
- Moving your body to reset your energy—the almost-magical shift
- The "knocking on heaven's door" twist move for instant relief
- Laughter as an antidote: calling a friend or watching your go-to funny video

From the power of "yes, and..." to the surprising magic of moving your body, discover how to acknowledge what sucks while still finding your way back to good enough.
