New episode alert! 🎙️

Ever wonder why you keep putting things off? Spoiler: It's not about laziness.

In this week's episode, we dig into the real reasons behind procrastination—and trust us, it starts with a very relatable story about Janine's refrigerator. (We've all been there, right?)

We explore four productivity blocks that lead to procrastination: enjoyment, reward, distractibility, and confidence. Plus, we share a universal strategy to help you finally get started on those tasks you've been avoiding.

Whether you're stuck on a big project or just can't seem to tackle the small stuff, this episode is packed with practical strategies to help you move forward.

We're diving into procrastination today—not to judge it, but to understand what's really happening underneath.

Spoiler: it's not about laziness. It's about avoiding a feeling.

In this episode, we talk about the four productivity blocks that lead to procrastination (enjoyment, reward, distractibility, and confidence) and share one universal strategy: figure out what feels bad about the task… and then counteract that.

From refrigerator clean-outs to phone calls on hold, we've been there. And we're sharing what actually helps us get started anyway.

New episode drops Thursday! Tune in wherever you listen to podcasts.

We've been thinking about this week's episode on the discomfort dividend—and how those small, slightly uncomfortable efforts we make today really do pay us back with ease and less stress down the road.

Since Thursday's episode dropped, we're curious: have you tried doing a favor for future you this week?

Maybe you wrote down tomorrow's Big Three before bed. Ran the dishwasher at night. Put your keys in the same spot. Entered that receipt right away instead of letting it pile up. Prepped something for an easier morning.

Whatever it was—big or small—we'd love to hear about it. What did you try? How did it feel? Did future-you say thank you?

And if you haven't listened yet, this episode is full of real-life examples of how a little discomfort now creates a whole lot of ease later. Link on our Episodes page.

What if the secret to happiness is doing a small, slightly uncomfortable thing now—so tomorrow (and next week… and tax season) feels easier?

In this week's episode, we explore what we're calling the discomfort dividend: the idea that a little effort, inconvenience, or mild discomfort in the present can pay you back later with more ease, less stress, and better momentum.

We share real-life examples—like writing down our "Big Three" the night before, building a simple dishwasher routine, staying on top of bookkeeping and payroll, and freezing meals for future dinners—and we explore why doing things as they happen is often dramatically easier than trying to "catch up" later.

Discussion topics include:
• Writing down the "Big Three" the night before is paying dividends
• "Less than five minutes" at night can save an hour of morning dithering
• The dishwasher habit: run it at night, unload it in the morning, and the whole day flows better
• Bookkeeping as a discomfort dividend: weekly QuickBooks + daily YNAB makes tax time easier
• Doing it in the moment vs. figuring it out later (hello, mysterious Amazon purchases)
• Freezer meals as future-us support: batch cooking and portioning for easy, healthy dinners
• "Thank your past self": noticing the payoff when the future arrives
• Putting things away: the ease of being able to find what we need, when we need it

If you're craving a calmer week, smoother mornings, or fewer "why did I wait so long?" moments, this one's for you.

Listener action: Pick one small thing you can do today as a favor for future you—then try it for a week. What will it be? Let us know in the comments!

What if a little discomfort today could buy you a whole lot of ease tomorrow?

We're exploring something we're calling the "discomfort dividend" in this Thursday's episode—and it might just change how you think about those small tasks you've been putting off.

Think: the night-before prep that saves your morning, the habit that makes tax season easier, the five minutes now that saves an hour later.

We're sharing the real-life examples that have made our weeks smoother and our stress levels lower. If you've ever wondered whether those tiny efforts are really worth it... this one's for you.

New episode drops Thursday at 9 am Central. What small thing could you do today as a favor for future you?

Saturday reflection: How did this week feel?

If you listened to Episode 274, you might've tried the "Big Three" practice—writing down just three priorities for the day and asking yourself: if I only do these three things, would that be good enough?

We're curious: Did anything shift for you? Your focus? Your stress level? That "behind" feeling?

The whole point is this: We don't have to earn peace by finishing everything. Sometimes the gentlest thing we can do is notice what we DID accomplish instead of what we didn't.

Drop a comment and let us know what helped you feel less behind this week. We'd love to hear from you. đź’™

The Myth of Catching Up: Letting Go of the Endless To-Do List

Have you ever finished a big task and felt that rush of relief—like, ahhh, I'm finally caught up—and then immediately noticed ten more things waiting for you? Yeah, we know that feeling.

In this episode, we're unpacking the productivity myth of "catching up," why it can feel so urgent (and so exhausting), and how it connects to perfectionism and productivity.

We start in the middle of an "atmospheric river" (aka endless rain) and talk about Shannon and Mike installing a French drain that finally solved a long-standing sidewalk flooding problem. It felt amazing to cross it off the list… until the list refilled (as it always does).

We explore where the pressure to catch up comes from and what it might look like to let go of the whole concept. We also talk about doing things for enjoyment (without deadlines or milestones), and Janine shares a simple practice that helps her feel less behind: writing down her "Big Three" tasks the night before.

Shannon's out here tackling French drains like a boss! In Episode 374, we dive into the real talk about DIY projects, perfectionism paralysis, and how sometimes "good enough" means getting your hands dirty and figuring it out as you go. No fancy credentials needed—just courage, a shovel, and a willingness to learn.

Tune in for the full story about how Shannon (and her husband) installed their own drainage system, felt amazing about it... and then immediately felt behind because of everything else on her list. We talk about celebrating wins without the guilt, and why that one accomplishment actually matters—even when there's always more to do.

New episode drops a little later today! What's something you've accomplished recently that got overshadowed by your to-do list? We'd love to hear it!

Ever notice that moment when you finally finish something big and think, "I'm caught up!"... and then immediately spot ten more things waiting for you? Yeah, we know that feeling.

In tomorrow's episode, we're unpacking the productivity myth of "catching up"—why it feels so urgent, why it's exhausting, and how it's actually perfectionism in disguise.

We talk about French drains (yes, really!), letting go of the endless to-do list, and a simple practice that helps us feel less behind: the "Big Three."

Here's the thing: "Caught up" is a moving target. But we don't have to earn peace by finishing everything. If catching up doesn't really exist, maybe we can stop chasing it—and start noticing what we've already done instead.

New episode drops Thursday. What's one thing that helps YOU feel less behind? Drop it in the comments—we'd love to hear from you! 💙

đź’ This Week's Reflection

We've been thinking about what we shared this week about getting started, and wow—it hits different when you really sit with it.

The biggest takeaway? Feeling good NOW makes it easier to move forward. Not after you finish everything. Not after the stars align. Not after January 1st. NOW.

That shift from "I'll feel good when I accomplish X" to "I'll feel good now, and then take action from that place"... that's the game changer.

So here's our question for you: What's one small thing you could start TODAY, right now, without waiting for it to be perfect? Not a big project. Just one tiny, imperfect step.

The courage to begin is already inside you. đź’™

What would you start if you gave yourself permission to be messy about it? Tell us in the comments!

✨ The four Cs that change everything: Calm, Competent, Capable, Confident

Here's what we know: You don't need all the answers to get started. Progress comes from action, not perfection. Start where you are, be kind to yourself, and let the rest unfold.
