OLOWALU FIRE STATION UPDATE April 4, 2024



Aloha Dear Friends of West Maui,

Aloha to the Rescue is on the move. Our community is stepping up to proactively engage with needed increased fire protection because the next Lahaina Fire is literally “on the way.” The only question is when and how much destruction will it cause this time?

The prudent needs of our community for increased fire protection are recognized and our community is being supported by people who love Lahaina and appreciate our Hana Hou for our second fire station at Olowalu. This is truly a spiritual experience and a miracle in progress. Please see what our fire chief Bradford Ventura has to say about our most recent donor following…

I would like to express our deep gratitude to the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation for their extremely generous donation to the West Maui Improvement Foundation to move our community closer to having another fire station.

The donation will assist in the Department’s expansion of services in West Maui, providing protection for homeowners, businesses, highway users, and beachgoers in the area. Adding a third fire station on the west side is not only a benefit to the community but also to the safety of our firefighters.

We would like to thank WMIF for spearheading this project which will contribute to saving the lives of our residents and visitors.”

We at WMIF are finalizing a purchase and sales agreement with the manufacturer and the $1 Million donation from Vanguard Charitable Foundation on behalf of Susan and Michael Dell (Dell Family Foundation), will move us forward! We are still looking for the $900K we still need to complete our construction and land use arrangements. Now is the time to satisfy this need to save lives. Have you made a financial donation? Why not do that today! There simply is no better way to help Lahaina than this! Please help. We urge everyone who wants to help Lahaina that this is the way!

Launiupoko Property Owners, The Yarnolds, Pledge $100,000 towards development for Olowalu Fire Station initiative. Now they have been matched by property owners The Leffingwells who also pledged $100,000. That’s $200K in pledges. (With 18 more matching this, we will have the $2M needed. Now …this is exciting…Please join them!)



“We love living in Launiupoko and are delighted to see the WMIF’s program to privately fund and develop a badly needed fire station in our area. We’ve decided to make a significant conditional pledge to support this effort. The past few years we have witnessed wildfires in our area, and the ongoing risks we face will continue without better proximity to fire protection as proposed by the WMIF. Their track record at Napili is an unprecedented success, and the opportunity to bring a state-of-the-art fire station to our area is one we should all embrace.



A new fire station will reduce response times to the fires we see frequently in our area and should have the added impact of reducing the cost of our homeowner’s insurance. By making this pledge contingent upon the fire station becoming operational we give the WMIF the ability to borrow funds and get this project done. Good afternoon!!! Do you have plans yet for May 5?

Hungry Coyote celebrates 2nd year of success and gratitude for serving our community and traveling guests. We are holding a Cinco de Mayo celebration!

Thank you all for your referrals. We recognize our success has much to do with your support!

We are now open Brunch: Tues through Sat (5 days) a week 10:30 am - 3 pm! Dinner is 5 pm - 8 pm.

BYOB tequila and we will make fresh delicious margaritas! No corkage fee for beer or wine.

We serve Meat-lovers to Vegan, Gluten free dishes. Locally sourced, farm to table produce and local fresh catch Mahi.

Catering weddings, birthdays and any special events is our specialty. We offer restaurant buy-outs as well.
