Burkina Faso has rejected a US proposal to accept migrants deported under President Donald Trump’s renewed immigration crackdown, which involves sending migrants to third countries with which they have no ties. Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré called the offer “indecent” and “contrary to the principle of dignity,” saying, “Burkina Faso is a land of dignity—a destination, not a place of expulsion.” His comments followed the US Embassy in Ouagadougou suspending most visa services and redirecting Burkinabe applicants to Togo. “Is this a way to put pressure on us? Is this blackmail? Whatever it is… Burkina Faso is a place of dignity, not a place of expulsion,” Traoré added. Countries like Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, Eswatini, and South Sudan have already agreed to accept US deportees.
