Multiple flights were impacted by runway repairs at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport today. Intermittent closures began at around 7 a.m.

Transportation director Ed Sniffen told Hawaii News Now crews found a fracture in the pavement “just right in the middle of the runway, exactly where the wheels touch down for all the planes.”

A man on Kauai had to be airlifted to safety after a “rapidly worsening infection” from an apparent spider bite rendered him unable to hike out.
