On July 24, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that alters how the U.S. addresses mental health care for the homeless.

The order permits the involuntary institutionalization of individuals who are considered a danger to themselves or others, reversing laws that led to the closure of mental asylums in the 1960s.

It directs federal agencies to support states in carrying out civil commitments for those struggling with severe mental health or substance use disorders, especially among the homeless.

The administration defends this action as necessary to restore order and enhance safety in cities.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that the order will prioritize mental health and addiction treatment, aiming to remove individuals causing public disturbances from the streets.

Though the executive order is designed to tackle homelessness and safety issues, critics argue it violates the rights of individuals with mental health challenges.

Organizations like the National Homelessness Law Center caution that the policy could worsen homelessness, stressing the need to focus on underlying problems like affordable housing and healthcare access.

This order follows a 2024 Supreme Court ruling allowing cities to ban homeless camping, leading to tougher local laws across the country.

The full impact of the order remains to be seen as states begin to implement it.

On July 23, 2025, President Donald Trump responded sharply to newly released photos showing his past connections with convicted s*x offender Jeffrey Epstein, with a six-word reply: “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

The photos, released by CNN, show Epstein attending Trump’s 1993 wedding to Marla Maples and interacting with Trump and Melania at a 1999 Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

In a brief phone call with CNN, Trump dismissed the photos as "fake news" before abruptly ending the conversation.

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung supported Trump’s response, calling the photos “out-of-context frame grabs” from “widely attended events” and accusing the media of trying to infer something sinister.

Cheung also reiterated that Trump had banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago for inappropriate behavior.

These new revelations come amid ongoing scrutiny of Trump’s past associations with Epstein.

Earlier this month, a Wall Street Journal report alleged that Trump had sent Epstein a "b***y" birthday card in 2003.

Trump has vehemently denied the claim, even threatening legal action against the publication.

The Justice Department's recent decision not to release more Epstein-related documents has sparked criticism from both Democrats and some Republicans, who are pushing for greater transparency.

The resurfacing of these photos and the responses to them have added fuel to the ongoing public and political debates about Trump’s connections to Epstein, keeping the controversy alive in the spotlight.
