Most fans recognize Jim Eno as the drummer and co-founder of Austin indie-rock band Spoon. But his career rocks more facets than that -- and no, despite the rumors, he’s not related to Brian Eno.
Starting at the 2012 Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL) and continuing with SXSW 2013-2017, Eno has now curated and produced over 100 exclusive tracks for our series, most recently with artists such as Rag’n’Bone Man, Jim’s very own Spoon, Mondo Cozmo, SOHN, Lucius, The Shins, Phantogram, and Father John Misty.
Born in Rhode Island, Eno studied electrical engineering in college and started playing the drums as a junior. He fixated himself on big-band jazz as a way to grow his skills. After moving to Austin to design microchips, Eno joined forces with Britt Daniel and juggled the hectic double life of an engineer and musician. During this time, he found himself drawn toward music production, recording bands when he could between Spoon tours.
When he's not writing, recording and touring with Spoon, he operates his own studio, Public Hi-Fi, which began as a one-room detached garage in 1998 and has since grown to a two-story musical nirvana of modern and vintage equipment. With a resume featuring artists ranging from Arcade Fire and Lady Gaga to Justin Timberlake and Miguel, the facility continues to grow its reputation. And perhaps not surprisingly, Spotify saw the potential to garner some killer recordings there.
Today, we celebrate these intimate sessions, as captured and produced by Jim. From stripped down versions of classic songs, to reworks and covers … Listen now: http://spoti.fi/enosessions
