Come and join me beginning this Wednesday night for a 4-week Bible study called "Saints & Ain'ts: Finding Faith Through the Unfaithful." This ladies' class meets from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in room D-109 at the west end of the gym at the Legacy Church, 8801 Mid-Cities Boulevard, North Richland Hills, TX 76082. Handouts every week. Come and bring a friend. And don't be surprised if a few mysterious visitors show up during the classes.

Early this morning my beautiful sister-in-law, Kay (Cox) Shrode, escaped the prison of her paralyzed body into the freedom of heaven's glorious eternity. She will be greatly missed, to put it mildly, by her family and many friends.

That's because Kay was no ordinary lady. She was smart, talented, and good at almost anything she tried. She was married to my brother, Frank, for 62 years. "Mom" to her children, "Nana" to her grandchildren, and "Katie" to me, she was our family's Christmas queen. She organized, hosted, and made our holidays fun and memorable with her famously addictive trail mix (better known as "trash"), lasagne, and many other tasty treats.

Kay loved to travel around the country in their camper trailer for weeks at a time. She enjoyed sewing and collecting international Santa Clauses. She loved to shop, cook, go to concerts, and be part of their kids' and grandkids' lives.

No, she was not ordinary in any way; she was extraordinary indeed to everyone who knew and loved her.

Rest well, Katie. You earned it.
