It's that time of year and we've already had many ask if we're bringing it back. Here it is! We invite everyone to our annual HOLIDAY LIGHT EXTRAVAGANZA at the Williams Center for the Arts! Due to fewer school days between Thanksgiving and winter break, we will only be offering two days of shows this year but we're ecstatic that we could still make sure to continue our tradition of bringing some holiday fun to the students and community. Community members, family, and friends are welcome to attend any of our showings as well! Please share with anyone who would be interested. There is no cost to attend so bring everyone to the show!

If you came to the Williams Center for the Arts concert last evening, we hope you enjoyed it. We got to spend most of the day with the fine musicians and technicians that made up the show For Kids to 1 to 92. We collaborated with all of them throughout the afternoon to get everything just how they wanted it and then put on a show. Because of Thanksgiving break, we had a slightly smaller crew at this show. We want to acknowledge student members Lucas and Aaron for being pretty new to Husky Productions but doing a great job nonetheless!

A small crew of our team is in Decorah this evening helping celebrate by bringing the music, lights, and sound for a wedding reception. Congrats to Emily and Weston (former Oelwein band student teacher) on your special day! Thanks for asking us to be a part of it!

We had an exceptional time working with the Ultimate Frank Sinatra Show last evening at the Williams Center for the Arts for one of their season series concerts. We had several individuals in charge of tech areas behind the scenes keeping things running smoothly. Thanks and job well done to Brandon (running monitors and video wall), Aylin (spotlight), Eric (lighting), Ben (performer tech assistant), Emma (spotlight), Mr. McBride (front of house audio).

'Like' if you enjoyed the concert last night. 'Comment' if you noticed something positive our tech crew had a hand in!

We are looking for an additional crew member for Saturday evening's Frank Sinatra tribute concert to help us with spotlight. No experience is necessary! If there are any 7-12th grade students who would like to experience what it's like to be part of the tech crew for a show, please comment or email Mr. McBride at [email protected] if you know a student who is interested in joining us.

Throwback to the original Husky Productions tech crew when we first started back around 2018. This crew was great and set the bar high for every crew that has come after!

We took an official team photo today! What a great bunch of tech students to work with!

We are HUSKY PRODUCTIONS!

Husky Productions is excited to be in its third year as a student-run, school-based organization that focuses on providing audio and visual technology services to the school, community, and individuals. With the ability to provide audio and/or visual production for small and medium sized events, we pride ourselves in providing a high quality product at a great value. The best part about the organization is that it’s student run!

Husky Productions currently has 12 student members who have learned about the equipment/technology, regularly set it up and tear it down, program equipment systems, operate them, and help dictate the future direction of the organization. In the first year of existence, Husky Productions focused on supporting and enhancing in-house events, such as school dances, meetings, and events held in the Williams Center for the Arts. With everything now in place, we are excited to expand our reach into the community and surrounding area to hopefully have an even bigger impact with technology and the real world. Junior Brielle Belden comments, “Being in Husky Productions from the very beginning has been an interesting, fun experience. It's been nice being with the project as it grows, and I'm excited to see how it develops even after I graduate!”

With such a focus on real world experience, students who are active members are getting valuable experience on what it’s like to operate a service-based business. From discussions regarding accepting potential jobs, to budget, to maintaining, upgrading, and expanding equipment needs, the students get to be involved in the entire process and are often put into the driver’s seat when it comes to working events or operating equipment systems. Alongside them is Husky Productions staff adviser and coach, Mr. Cory McBride. With over 20 years of experience working with production equipment, McBride is able to work with beginners and train them ‘on the job’. Students will generally start with less complex tasks and eventually advance to operating entire lighting or sound systems on their own. “The reason I enjoy being part of Husky Productions so much is that it is just so different from anything I have been a part of. This organization has made such an impact on me that I would like to pursue a career in this field,” states senior Adriana Reese.

In addition to the typical events that the group usually handles, last July students were invited to be part of the production crew for national country artist Dustin Lynch at a large scale, professional concert hosted by the Buchanan County Fair. Students worked alongside trained professionals for two days setting up festival staging, concert-grade audio equipment and lighting, and unloading semi trailers of concert equipment and instruments. Some students even got to design the lighting placement and work during the concert as part of the professional lighting crew.
