Anchor and reporter Barbara Ciara received this year’s Board of Governors Award at the 67th Capital Emmys on June 21. As an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist who recently concluded her 50-year career, spanning both print and broadcast, Barbara covered numerous significant moments, including many that impacted the Hampton Roads community. Her speech after receiving the award hit on the importance of journalism in the digital age amid misinformation.

Congrats to Barbara and all those who received Emmys at this year’s award show!

At the 67th National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter Emmy Awards, Morgan State proudly brought home its first-ever individual Emmy Award. The university was honored for its original documentary, History of a National Treasure: The Documentary Story of Morgan State University, produced by Morgan’s Center for New Media and Strategic Initiatives.

The win marks a major milestone not just for the university, but for HBCUs as a whole as they continue building national reputations for producing powerful, culturally-rooted media that uplifts the African American experience.
