My father was a strikingly good looking man. Also the smartest person I ever knew. He was my oracle. He always had the answers. Everything important I know he taught me. Miss him this Father’s Day and everyday.

VO Journey

I have always loved radio. I grew up in Southern California where the Los Angeles stations we listened to were among the best in the country. On FM, these were the days of free-form radio where DJ’s chose their own music and were able to make a real connection with the audience. There were many legendary DJ’s but Jim Ladd sticks out as one of my favorites. We listened to KLOS and the infamous KMET. KITS (Live 105) introduced those of us raised on 70’s rock to punk and new wave.

On AM, I listened every night to the CBS Radio Mystery Theatre broadcasts. These audio dramas come to life were enchanting and so well produced. I fell asleep to the stories every night. Los Angeles was also home to the Lakers and Chick Hern, the greatest basketball announcer ever as well as Vin Sculley doing Dodger broadcasts.

I loved the radio, I loved the theatre of the mind. There is something about just a voice, especially with headphones, that is more intimate than anything. It’s a special connection and you don’t get the feeling like there are tens of thousands of others also listening.
