California cannabis recall ⚠️

The DCC has issued a voluntary recall of Mr. Zips v**e cartridges sold after Aug. 14, 2024, due to pesticide contamination.

Affected strains include Lemon Cherry Runtz, First Class Funk, Space Rocks, Smarties, Golden Gas, and Crescendo (seven batches across 30 stores).

Consumers should return or dispose of these products. Anyone with adverse reactions should contact their physician.

This recall follows others in California this year, underscoring the importance of rigorous testing and compliance in cannabis.

Virginia is the only state that legalized adult-use cannabis but still hasn’t set up legal sales.

For the past two years, lawmakers passed bills to allow dispensaries in the state, but Gov. Glenn Youngkin blocked them.

Now he’s leaving office, and the November election will decide what happens next.

The two main candidates don’t agree on cannabis sales—so Virginia voters will be deciding the future of the market.

Big shakeup in Michigan’s cannabis industry⬇️

Viridis Labs — once one of the state’s largest testing labs — has been permanently barred from the market after years of disputes with regulators.

The Cannabis Regulatory Agency’s consent order requires Viridis to close by Sept. 28, ending a saga that began with a $292M product recall in 2021. Regulators alleged the lab reported inflated THC potency results compared to competitors.

This marks one of the most high-profile enforcement actions to date and highlights growing scrutiny of cannabis testing nationwide, where concerns about lab integrity and inconsistent results continue to loom.

Do you think we’ll see more regulators step up enforcement in other states?

Ohio’s adult-use cannabis market just got a new product on shelves: pre-rolls. 🌿

After more than a year of recreational sales, consumers can finally access one of the industry’s fastest-growing categories—pre-roll sales nationally topped $4.1B last year.

Ohio’s rollout comes with regulatory hurdles, but demand is already clear: one dispensary sold out of its first drop in just two days.

👀 Will pre-rolls become a top seller in Ohio like they have nationwide?

President Trump has hinted at rescheduling cannabis — a move that could ease crushing taxes and give the $32B legal industry a much-needed boost.

At the same time, his Justice Department continues to defend federal ma*****na prohibition, leaving the industry in limbo.

With major cannabis-related cases heading to the Supreme Court and mixed signals from the White House, the path to federal reform remains uncertain.

Excise taxes have come a long way from being “just another revenue tool.”

Today, they’re strategic levers governments use to shape consumer behavior, fund targeted programs, and address social or environmental costs.

The article in comments breaks down how excise taxes function across industries — and then zooms in on how these same principles are applied within the regulated cannabis sector.

Is cannabis ready for its Bar Rescue moment?

Jerry Millen, CEO of Greenhouse in Walled Lake, Michigan, believes the $32B legal cannabis industry is at a tipping point — and in need of a lifeline. His proposed rescue tool? 📺 Reality TV.

Together with two seasoned TV producers, Millen has developed Cannabiz Rescue, a reality-TV concept with a filmed pilot already being pitched to streaming services.

The premise: struggling cannabis retailers open their doors (and books) for a no-holds-barred transformation. Every misstep and missed opportunity is scrutinized, all with the goal of creating sustainable, successful businesses.

Think Bar Rescue… but for cannabis.

The vision goes beyond entertainment. Millen believes a show like this can both spotlight the challenges small cannabis businesses face and build momentum toward federal legalization.

What do you think — can reality TV help rescue cannabis? 👀
