At 2:06 AM, the sun came up. The sky blazed like noon, clocks froze, and a deafening hum rattled Block Island’s soul. Residents panicked. Some collapsed. Others heard voices, warnings from a ship that shouldn’t exist. By 2:29 AM, it was over. Or was it?

“Find me” she begged, in a lost message recovered at sea…

What happened to the Chalkstone family? In a hidden recording revealed by the late Mayor Burke, we hear a daughter’s desperate voice from a drifting kayak, and the truth she shares may crack the mystery wide open. Time loops. Vanishing boats. And a sleepwalking woman who syncs with the weather channel.

What happened to the ferry? In 2017, the so-called “Shenandoah Incident” changed everything. Sixty-one people vanished from a ferry to Block Island with no warning, no witnesses, and no answers. Not even the sole survivor, a young man named Charlie Ren, could piece together what happened out at sea. But the ferry was just the beginning. Told through recovered interviews, audio logs, and classified transmissions, The Ferry unravels the chilling events that haunted one small community in the smallest state - and why no one ever talked about it.

From the wreckage of community radio and a fading memory, radio host Joshua Boho, and a small band of citizens, fight to make sense of it all. Was it a government coverup? A cosmic anomaly? Or something much older, something… ancient? Neither the sea nor sky is safe. Tune in September 5th to all 10 episodes now and decide for yourself. But remember: if you hear the hum, stay out of the water.

Premieres September 5th, 2025.

Becca Bender has been instrumental to LittleFire’s efforts, she’s a great friend, a true champion and someone we can all look to for guidance in many matters, so we’d be remiss if we didn’t share this post in today’s Boston Globe in support of her.

LittleFire has always had a strong belief in importance and power of film and media achieves. Much of our work over our existence has worked with, utilized and promoted film and media archives.

LittleFire founders & have been vocal about the value of media history and have often supported such efforts with their own funds and resources whenever possible. It’s what helped lead them to found their non-profit, Kindling, which focuses on Educational and Community Media, and Media Preservation, and has helped support local community efforts like the Providence 48 Hour Film Project and upcoming Food Anthropology & Story Preservation.

This Boston Globe Op-Ed post by Rhode Island Archivist Becca Bender really touches upon an important issue we should all not let fly under the radar. We’d love to hear what you think in the comments below.

Earlier this year, Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Connecticut alum Emily Tuohey and I started a podcast called 'LingQuery', a program where we ask - and attempt to answer - fascinating inquiries related to the language and communication sciences. Student-led, and professionally-driven, we uncover insights you won't hear anywhere else. Listen now to explore the nature of phenomena such as speech, language, and cognition from the perspectives of biology, psychology, anthropology, art, and more. The podcast is available on most major platforms, and we'd love for you to give us your comments and rate the show to increase our visibility. We are also making transcriptions available for all episodes so that all can access the content.
