A stop for illegally crossing the roadway quickly escalated into the apprehension of an out-of-state fugitive, according to reports released by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. Hugo Gerardo Vazquez Acosta, 35, was arrested on September 27, 2025, after a Chattooga County deputy discovered he was wanted in Kentucky for a felony charge of vehicle theft.

According to data from Placer.ai, a leading location analytics intelligence platform, the 2025 Sum Nelly Festival at Dowdy Park saw a record-breaking attendance of approximately 6,600 visitors—an impressive increase of 1,800 attendees from 2024’s total of 4,800. The event reached its peak attendance at 11:00 a.m., when more than 3,700 festivalgoers were on-site enjoying the wide array of arts and craft vendors, delicious food, and family-friendly activities. We were also fortunate to have 150 vendors participate in 2025. This year’s turnout highlights the continued growth and popularity of the beloved community tradition in the city of Summerville.
