The more time I try to spend behind my kit the more life tries to stop me. My goal is an hour a day but more days than not I get a big whopping zero. It's a long journey on the "Road To 200 BPM". Back injuries suck.

As a drummer, finding a great bass tone is like finding your soulmate. Or finding a bonus fry at the bottom of the bag. You get it. The Darkglass is just a triple helping of icing on the cake.

My vocal chain hasn't really changed over the years, just the way I accomplish the final product. It still looks like a lot but it used to be stacks of processing to get to the same results. I still miss drenching the vocals in tons of reverb but we don't talk about that.

These in ear monitors were supposed to have the best sound isolation on the market. After trying every type and shape of ear piece they came with, they're no better than the cheaper Shure in ear's I've been using for years. What a bummer.

Meet the brain of Kaotic Studios, the RME Fireface. I love the precision of German engineering, it just works no matter what. The manual translated into English leaves a bit to be desired but it's a small price to pay for great sounding preamps and the ultimate in flexibility. This little guy can handle 30 channels in and 30 channels out simultaneously.

I still find jamming on a real amp inspiring. There's often a completely different type of writing flow that comes out of me when plugged into a real amp. Don't get me wrong, I love the flexibility of digital amps but real air being moved by real speakers just stirs up different feelings.

I grew up balancing digital audio with analogue audio. The older I get, the more I live solely in the digital audio world. But I still get a little giddy when I get to play with analogue gear. Just putting your hands on the switches and making a connection that's not just clicking a mouse is a whole other vibe.

Confession time. I have no idea what those little string holder down things are on the headstock. I only see them on bass guitars. And they're only on the higher strings? What gives?

After playing on the A Custom line from Zildjian for so many years, anything less bright just sounds dull. Even so, I'm still looking forward to expanding our backline of cymbals to include a few choice pieces from Sabian and Soultone here soon. What's a larger crash you couldn't live without that just works regardless of genre?

I'm usually a black guitar kind of guy but this Jackson really makes me want a neon Dingwall bass guitar. Those shocking colors just look soooooo good photographed IMO.

I'm thinking a couple of Adirondack chairs would make this a great spot for bands to hang out on tracking days. Or maybe a BBQ to do a little grillin'? What would you do with this space if you were hosting bands?
