For veterans living with PTSD, military sexual trauma or mobility challenges, a service dog can be more than a companion — it can be a life-changing partner.
We recently visited Wilmington’s Canines for Service, where veterans are matched with highly trained service dogs after a thoughtful, two-year training process. Recent graduates Henry and Blaze are already helping Navy Veteran Chris Campbell and Marine Corps Veteran Daniel Jimenez regain confidence, independence and peace of mind.
“I’ve regained my freedom; I’m more relaxed; and I’m sleeping better,” Campbell says.
Since 1996, Canines for Service has placed 98 service dogs with veterans — at no cost to the recipients. Read more about the people, dogs, fosters and volunteers behind these transformative matches.
