Johns Hopkins Medicine and UnitedHealthcare officially ended their negotiations to continue doing business with each other on Monday.

The two had a deadline to sign a new contract at the end of August, but were unable to come to an agreement. The organizations continued their negotiations past the deadline, but are now officially calling it quits.

Baltimore County now has a map it will use to expand the county council from seven to nine seats in time for the 2026 election.

The new map creates two majority Black districts on the county’s west side. It also has a third west side district in which a majority of its residents are people of color, known as a minority-majority district.

Supporters say it will help people of color get elected to the council.

After a lengthy legal process, a massive amount of settlement money is flowing into Baltimore City to combat the opioid epidemic.

How that money will be spent is the responsibility of Sara Whaley, the Executive Director of our city’s Overdose Response team. Mayor Brandon Scott named her to that role in February. She also co-chairs the Restitution Advisory Board.

Whaley joins Midday to discuss the city's plans for that money, along with WYPR’s health reporter Scott Maucione, who has been following this story closely.
