Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)

Directed by Tommy Lee Wallace and released 43 years ago today.

With no connection to the other Halloween instalments in the franchise, this unique evil cooperation tale, produced by Debra Hill and Carpenter, where deadly masks are distributed around the world.

I love the music in this film and really wish it was a standalone film for Wallace as it's a great film without the attachment to the Myers films.

The franchise was set to be a semi anthology series I , and each new Halloween film would be an original story. That didn't work out, and fans demanded the return of Michael Myers.

You've got to love seeing Tom Atkins kicking ass and it's shot by Dean Cundey. What's there not to like? Anyway, here's my DVD copy.

The Dark Old House (1932)

Directed by the legendary James Wale and released 93 years ago today.

Up there with Frankenstein (1931), Karlof teams up with Wale again with Charles Laughton and Melvin Douglas in this classic horror.

The lighting in this film is hypnotic, and the performance from Karlof as Saul is another great one with twists and turns through the story.

Here's my DVD by Network!

Candyman (1992) - Directed by Bernard Rose and released in the US today, 33 years ago.

Despite only seeing one live death on screen, this film still creeps into my mind and gives me chills from its nightmarish imagery . The score by Philip Glass is hypnotic and up there with one of the greatest horror themes.

This film achieves the downtown horror concept to the fullest and its the performances of Virginia Madsen and Tomy Todd that are the essence of the madness within urban legend.

I first watched this with my mum, who said she could top any horror my dad had shown me when I was younger. Let's just say that when the VHS tape finished, I slept with the lights on. My mum knows what makes a good horror film.

With that, I say, what better horror film to watch this October, so here's my Blu-ray copy of the original!

(Mum still has the VHS)

Pumpkinhead (1988) - Directed by Stan Winston and first released limited 37 years ago today.

Stan Winston shows off his directing chops in this dark creature feature with Lance Hendrickson in the lead. I honestly think Stan did an amazing job here and wished he had more opportunities to direct.

Unfortunately, this picture and his next led studios go out of business, so any further projects directed by Winston, we're put on hold in favour of his visual effects.

Saying that, having Alec Gills and the team behind Pumkinhead, Winston achieves a really effective film with dark possession, ghostly atmosphere as well as emotional scenes such as the hand washing scene between the son and father.

Here's my humbe DVD in celebration of this unique flick, so be sure to check it out over the halloween period!

Puppet Master (1989)

Directed by David Schmoeller and released 36 years ago, this is the start of the Puppet Master series.

As a kid, I loved this movie, along with the Child's Play films, especially the tunneler doll and the Blade puppet.

Yes, this film is rough around the edges, but it's a great laugh with some really unique kills. Don't forget leech woman!

Great for fans of haunted/possessed dolls!

Black Christmas (1974)

Directed by Bob Clark and released 51 years ago today in Canada, this movie kicks off the sorority house killer trope that sets the tone for many slashers to come after it, such as Halloween (1978).

It's a classic in its own right and does a great job with exploitative elements but is actually more intelligent than meets the eye.

It may seem a bit slower for modern audiences, but its twist ending and ambitious vision mark it as a seminal slasher for horror fans to enjoy.

Demons 2 (1986)

Directed by Lamberto Bava, produced by Dario Argento and released 39 years ago today in Italy.

A great sequel to the awesome Demons (1985) this takes place in a high-rise building with floors of terror as the demons re-enter our worth through television.

Whilst not as technically brilliant as the first one, this is a solid sequel with producer and director returning and deserves more attention.

Even boasting a demon kid, it's sure to thrill and entertain any horror fan. When you're Mario Bava's son, you're sure to pack some top horror films

Here's my Blu-Ray copy!
