Louisburg Teacher Facing Identity Theft Charges After Allegedly Using Fake Credentials to get Hired at a School

A Franklin County arrest warrant reveals that Gregory Lamont Pettiford, of Clayton, has been charged with multiple counts of identity theft and possession of fraudulent identification after allegedly using another person’s identity to gain employment as a teacher.

According to documents filed by the Louisburg Police Department, Pettiford is accused of unlawfully obtaining and using the driver’s license number and personal information of another man, identified in the warrant as William Page. Investigators say Pettiford used this information to fraudulently present himself as Page in order to secure a teaching position at Cross Creek Charter School. He is not employed at this time.

The warrant outlines two felony counts of identity theft and two misdemeanor counts of possessing/manufacturing fraudulent identification. Authorities allege that Pettiford possessed a North Carolina driver’s license containing a false date of birth and false name, intended for the purpose of deception.

The alleged offenses date back to August 4, 2025, with the warrant formally issued earlier this month. Pettiford is scheduled to appear in Franklin County District Court on September 25, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. for a probable cause hearing.

The case highlights growing concerns about fraudulent credentials in North Carolina’s education system, where background checks and verification procedures are meant to prevent such incidents.

If convicted, Pettiford could face significant penalties under state law, including prison time and fines for felony identity theft.

This is same man back in 2017 got fraudulent worker comp payments over $150,000 and was arrested in charged.

He has multiple felony convictions, including uttering forged paperwork, obtaining property by false pretense, possession of stolen goods, cheating on property services, embezzlement, receiving stolen goods, forgery and much more dating back to 1986. He has spent a total of four years and six months in prison over the last 30 years.
