Today was , and is a celebration of over 100 years of radio history.
Australia's first licensed broadcast took place on 23 November 1923, paving the way for three robust broadcasting sectors: commercial, public and, of course, community.
Our sector has changed a lot in this time, shifting from the uncertain legal and political landscape that birthed trailblazers including (but not limited to) Radio Adelaide, 2MBS Fine Music Sydney, 3MBS Melbourne 103.5FM and 4ZZZ in the 1970s to today's environment in which public support, law and political will have combined to create one of the world's most respected community broadcasting sectors.
If you're wondering how to mark the day visit the UNESCO website at https://www.unesco.org/en/days/world-radio/13ideas
