Now online! A single-nucleus transcriptomic atlas of the adult Aedes aegypti mosquito: A comprehensive single-nucleus RNA-seq atlas of >367,000 nuclei from male and female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes reveals sexual dimorphism in sensory systems and brain cell types and widespread co-expression of chemoreceptors across sensory modalities in peripheral sensory neurons and identifies brain glia as key cell types involved in post-blood-feeding transcriptional changes.

Now online! Remembering David Baltimore (1938–2025): David Baltimore, one of modern biology’s most influential scientists, passed away at his home in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, on September 6, 2025 at the age of 87, leaving legions of former trainees and the scientific community to contemplate the significance of a career that spanned the era of molecular biology from its infancy to the advent of cellular engineering and genome editing. A powerful intellectual force who defied categorization as a virologist, immunologist, or cancer biologist—his work indeed spanned a wide swath of biomedicine—David will long be remembered for his many seminal contributions and for building and leading some of the world’s most consequential scientific institutions.

Now online! Systemic immune activity occurs during human immune system maturation: Profiling of immune cells from consecutive developmental time points in second-trimester fetuses and adults reveals that immune activation, immune tolerance, and hematopoiesis occur in a systemic way throughout the body during human development.

Now online! Bacterial tubular networks channel carbohydrates in insect endosymbiosis: Bacteria with an intracellular lifestyle need to feed from inside their host cells. This study shows an adaptation of certain symbiotic bacteria, allowing them to actively retrieve nutrients from the host. High-pressure cryofixation has been combined with volume electron microscopy and in situ high spatial resolution chemical analysis. It reveals a complex bacterial membranous network that increases the exchange interface between the bacteria and host cytosol and maximizes carbohydrate acquisition.

Now online! Protein restriction reprograms the multi-organ proteomic landscape of mouse aging: Comprehensive proteomic analysis of 41 mouse tissues reveals tissue-specific aging hallmarks and demonstrates that dietary protein restriction mitigates age-related molecular changes, improves adipose and cardiovascular function, and is most profound during midlife, offering key insights into its geroprotective potential.

Now online! Cancer cells co-opt an inter-organ neuroimmune circuit to escape immune surveillance: Cancer cells exploit distant tissues and organs to escape immune surveillance by activating nociceptive neurons, which remodel tumor-draining lymph nodes into an immune-suppressed state. Blocking this inter-organ neuroimmune crosstalk reduces tumor growth, alleviates cancer-induced pain, and enhances the efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade therapy.

Now online! SARM1 senses dsDNA to promote NAD+ degradation and cell death: Detection of DNA is a fundamental strategy for life to recognize non-self or abnormal-self. This study uncovers that a protein known to mediate axon degeneration, SARM1, senses DNA to trigger downstream responses, including NAD+ degradation and cell death.

Now online! Adrenergic signaling coordinates distant and local responses to amputation in axolotl: The nervous system regulates a systemic response following amputation that primes distant appendages for faster regeneration upon a second injury, a scenario relevant to salamanders in the wild who experience repeated limb loss.

Now online! Structural basis for the concurrence of template recycling and RNA capping in SARS-CoV-2: Structures of the SARS-CoV-2 replication-transcription complex in the pre- and post-capping initiation states provide an insight into the concurrence of template recycling and RNA capping in the life cycle of the virus.

Now online! Pan-modification profiling facilitates a cross-evolutionary dissection of the thermoregulated ribosomal epitranscriptome: Pan-Mod-seq enables systematic, multi-modification mapping of rRNA across life. Applying it to diverse organisms reveals that hyperthermophiles dynamically install stabilizing modifications to support ribosome function at extreme temperatures.

Now online! CRATER tumor niches facilitate CD8+ T cell engagement and correspond with immunotherapy success: CD8+ T cells preferentially engage tumor cells in pockets termed CRATERs, which are rich with antigen presentation molecules and breach into the tumor mass from the stromal compartment. CRATERs expand and become the major site of tumor killing during immune-stimulatory treatment, and their expansion parallels clinical benefit in patients undergoing immunotherapy.
