Deputy Director Helena M. Doe-Knuckles Resigns from Liberia Airport Authority Amid Internal Turmoil

The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) has been thrust into uncertainty following the resignation of its Deputy Director for Administration, Hon. Helena M. Doe-Knuckles, a senior figure appointed by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai in 2024.

According to a leaked internal memo obtained by Verity Newspaper, Madam Doe-Knuckles officially tendered her resignation to the LAA management, which acknowledged receipt of her letter. Her departure took effect on Friday, August 15, 2025, leaving a critical leadership gap at the nation’s only international airport.

A Resignation Shrouded in Tension

Though no official reason has been disclosed, sources close to the matter suggest Doe-Knuckles’ exit stemmed from a deteriorating working relationship with other senior managers, including the Managing Director. Credible insider accounts point to an atmosphere of mistrust, administrative friction, and financial mismanagement among the top brass of the LAA.

A highly placed employee, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the internal climate as “toxic, unprocedural, and corrupt.” The source alleged that Doe-Knuckles pushed for reforms aimed at transparency and accountability, but her efforts were met with resistance. “Madam Doe-Knuckles insisted on reforms amid deepening internal impasse and alleged corruption but to no avail. That prompted her exit,” the employee said.

Silence from LAA Leadership

As of press time, the LAA has not released an official statement on Doe-Knuckles’s resignation, its plan to fill the vacancy, or the allegations of internal conflict. The absence of clarity has further fueled speculation about instability within the institution.

A Crucial Moment for Aviation Oversight

The timing of this resignation is particularly sensitive. The LAA, as custodian of Liberia’s aviation infrastructure, is tasked with ensuring compliance with international safety and operational standards. Leadership turbulence at such a critical agency could have implications for airport efficiency, global partnerships, and Liberia’s international image in civil aviation.

Observers note that this development underscores the urgent need for reforms within the LAA to rebuild trust, enforce accountability, and strengthen institutional governance.

Ganta Stages Powerful Anti-Drug Awareness Parade and Ghetto Clean-Up

The city of Ganta witnessed a strong show of unity on Friday as citizens, local leaders, and law enforcement joined forces in a determined push against the growing threat of drug abuse.

The “Say No to Drugs” anti-drug awareness parade brought together the Mayor of Gompa, Samuel Saye Hardt, and the Chairman of the Gompa Business Association (GBA), Prince Howard, alongside officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) and Liberia National Police (LNP).

Following the parade, the team embarked on an intensive community outreach operation, visiting several notorious ghettos across the city. There, they engaged directly with drug users and abusers, sensitizing them on the dangers of narcotics and urging them to make positive changes.

In a bold move, multiple ghettos and hideouts were dismantled and set ablaze, signaling the city’s zero-tolerance stance on drug dens. Organizers encouraged disadvantaged youths to abandon street life and return home to their families, emphasizing that rehabilitation and community support are possible for anyone willing to change.

Speaking to the media, officials described drug abuse as a “nightmare” threatening to wipe out an entire generation if left unchecked. They called for a holistic and united approach—urging community members, families, and institutions to work hand-in-hand in fighting the spread of harmful substances.

The event marks one of the most direct actions in recent months in Ganta’s ongoing battle against drug abuse, highlighting both the urgency of the crisis and the community’s resolve to protect its youth.
