An art exhibit featuring purses? 👜 Yes, it is true. Author and fashion historian Ilene Hochberg Wood has one of the largest independently owned collections of purses in the world and she currently has some of her favorites on display at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. If you are intrigued by the study of “purseology” (a term that Hochberg Wood coined), you will want to read this review of the exhibit written by Fort Wayne magazine summer intern, Kennedy Court, who is currently matriculating at Ball State University.

A purse is a powerful thing- it holds all your stuff. Ilene Hochberg Wood is under review by Guinness World Records for a world record for the…

Ever hear of forest bathing? 🌳🌲🌳 No, it’s not showering under a waterfall, although that can be a memorable experience. Forest bathing, also known as Shinrin-yoku, refers to relatively recent notions about interacting with nature and the benefits that can accompany such interactions. There is a forest bathing event at Eagle Marsh on Friday, and Taylor Stine, our summer intern from Indiana University , has a preview of it:

De-stress, ground yourself, get lost in your senses and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature through the practice of forest…

Five years ago, our community made a commitment to do better when it comes to race in Fort Wayne. New initiatives were started. Local heroes stepped up. Funding was allocated. But can we claim today that progress was really made in the hearts and minds of our citizens? Fort Wayne’s ability to thrive has everything to do with our ability to see each other, understand each other and love each other, no matter what. What will it take to finally get there? More deaths? More violence? Or perhaps more grace? More benefit of the doubt? Let’s do the hard work. Cover photography by

Downtown living offers a lot of benefits. You can roll out of bed in the morning and get a coffee and a muffin or a full breakfast. You have easy access to some of the region’s best bars, restaurants, museums and leisure options. And, depending on where you work, you might be able to walk to work. With the explosion of condo and apartment development downtown, we decided to focus our annual Homes issue on Downtown Living. We will show you some of the hottest spots in our city’s heart. Also inside is a guide to Mother’s Day brunches and an article about Feng shui, the interior design practice that takes into account the natural world. Available at fortwayne.com. Photography by

If a college or university wants a bolder future, it has to plan for that future. That’s where strategic plans come in. Strategic plans set goals for the institutions and rally the troops at those institutions so that everyone’s energy, actions and resources are focused and in alignment.

Here are the strategic plans of eight local and regional institutions of higher education.

If you want to know where northeast Indiana’s colleges and universities are headed, you need to learn about their strategic plans. A strategic plan is both…

Fort Wayne magazine’s City Guide is not just for extroverts and introverts. It’s for all vertebrates and even a few invertebrates. Our City Guide may be the only way you can truly immerse yourself in the northeast Indiana experience. We not only make it possible for you to immerse yourself; we give you the bubble bath and rubber ducky. No, we’re not sure what that means either, but work with us on this! Fort Wayne is a big city dressed up as a small city. Or maybe it’s a megalopolis dressed up as a hamlet. Whatever it is dressed up as, Fort Wayne gives you everything you want and spares you a lot of things you don’t want: Like a two-hour daily commute. Inside these pages, you will find out everything about dining, entertainment, amusement and edification in this fine city that you wanted to know and that you didn’t even know you wanted to know. Plus, you will get the news on everything new. Photo by

For our March education issue, we will be celebrating some of the region’s best and brightest students in high school and beyond. These are students who embrace challenges and lean into difficulties instead of shrinking from them. These are students who have discovered what they love and are masterfully achieving their academic and personal goals. These are students who have strong characters and work ethics and who positively influence other students. These are students who are even changing their schools and teachers for the better. These are students who are already making a big difference in the world.
