Caught a few shots this afternoon of a working house fire near Reno and Sooner in Midwest City. The call came in just before 1:30 PM, with heavy smoke visible from several miles away. Midwest City and Del City crews were on scene quickly, battling not only the fire but also the brutal heat with the heat index sitting at 102°.

One of the things I’m most grateful for is getting to use my talents to serve others. Photography has always been a creative outlet for me, but through my position with the fire department, it’s become something even more meaningful.

I get the rare chance to be in places most people don’t, like standing just feet away from fireworks as they light up the sky or behind the scenes during community events, capturing moments the public might not otherwise see.

It’s an honor to use that access to tell the story of our department, our town, and the people who make it special. Whether it’s through smoke, sparks, or celebration, I’ll keep doing my best to share those moments with all of you.

Here are a few of what I’m sure will be many more photos over the next couple of days. It was great to see some familiar faces and finally meet a few folks in person who I’ve only known through social media.

I finally got to meet the man behind Redhome Aviation and it was cool seeing Michael Armstrong out there, not chasing storms this time but capturing some great shots of planes with the rest of us.

The Tinker Air Show continues today and tomorrow. Don’t miss it!

A breathtaking supercell captured near Sickles, OK. This storm lit up the evening sky with dramatic structure and powerful contrast as day turned to night. A true display of nature’s raw beauty and intensity.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to photograph one of the massive “superload transports” involved in OG&E’s upgrade at the Horseshoe Lake Power Plant in Harrah, OK. These loads are part of a major project replacing aging power units with new natural gas fired generators.

Each transport is a logistical feat some of the equipment, like the transformers, weigh up to 900,000 pounds when loaded. Because of their size, they can’t travel on highways like I-40 or I-335 and must take alternate, county-approved routes.

At least six of these massive hauls will make their way along a 29-mile stretch, slowly and carefully. It’s an incredible thing to witness. Edwards Moving & Rigging, OG&E

Chasing Arnett: A Day to Remember

May 18th was one of those rare chase days that felt dialed in from the start. I teamed up with my longtime friend Richard Rowe, and after a thoughtful conversation with someone whose forecasting insight we deeply respect, we made our target. All signs pointed us toward northwestern Oklahoma.

By late afternoon, we found ourselves in Arnett, a quiet town that would soon be the backdrop for something unforgettable. The atmosphere was electric, the sky increasingly volatile. Within moments, we were in position as a stunning tornado touched down on the horizon.

It was the kind of tornado that commands silence. Perfectly sculpted, framed by dramatic contrast, and dancing across the open plains like something out of a dream. Watching it unfold in real time, camera shutters clicking, was nothing short of mesmerizing.

Adding to the day’s magic was running into familiar faces Neann, Mike, and Matt Furrer all chasing the same skies. There’s a shared camaraderie in moments like these, when experience, instinct, and a little luck all come together.

It wasn’t just a successful chase. It was one of those rare days that etches itself into memory a reminder of why we do this, and how much better it is when shared with good friends.
