Wayne sophomore Tully Wood closed out his sophomore season earlier this morning defeating Kaden Lange in a 10-6 decision to finish in 7th place, earning his spot on the podium in Class 1A 144 lb. The last time a Wayne wrestler finished state on the podium was when now Head Coach Dallas O'Brien placed in 1999.

Tully's twin brother Stoney, also closed out his season this morning with a victory over AJ Braddock in a 5-4 decision. Stoney took 7th place in Class 3A 126 lb for Indianola High School

It was an exciting evening of finals matches, the Grand March and medals being awarded. Great end to the wrestling season. Congratulations to all local wrestlers on an amazing season!

Times-Republican, where the times are a changin’

By Jen Reed

Forty years ago, on Jan. 23, 1979, history was made when The Times-Republican issue from that date came from their new location. It was the first time in more than 90 years the newspaper did not originate from the office at 113 West Jackson Street.

Since that time, The Times-Republican has seen more growth. Advancements in technology and even taking another growth step when we upgraded to our newest and current location at 204 South Franklin Street.

Taking a step back in time, the first paper in Wayne County was called the South Tier Democrat and was established in approximately 1860. During this era the paper sympathized with the confederacy.
