“Jimmy In Saigon” is a heartwarming documentary showing the love one gay man has for his late brother

"The undeniable strength of the film lies in the deep compassion McDowell brings to the project. His genuine desire to understand his late brother’s life — and the pain he may have endured — is moving. The film reveals that brother Jimmy struggled with drug addiction, hinting at unresolved trauma beneath the surface.

The possibility that Jimmy was also gay carries emotional weight; his brother reflects on how meaningful it would have been to share that common ground, and to support each other through their respective struggles. The film explores the vital need for connection and understanding within the q***r community, especially in the late ’60s at a time when LGBTQ individuals were more misunderstood and feared by many.

Having a q***r family member as an ally can be uniquely powerful, offering strength and solidarity when navigating a predominantly straight world that feels isolating.

McDowell’s documentary does an excellent job of exploring the universal human desire for freedom. Jimmy was disillusioned with many aspects of American culture, expressing a longing for places that embraced a simpler, less materialistic way of life. Given his struggles with his sexuality, it’s understandable that he was drawn to environments where he might feel less confined by societal expectations."

UCLA report: Workplace discrimination against LGBTQ Asian Americans “widespread”

"Lack of uniform prohibitions nationwide against sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination is a contributing factor as to why 44 percent of LGBTQ Asian Americans have experienced discrimination or harassment in the workplace, according to the lead author of a study released by the Williams Institute at UCLA Law School.

Employment discrimination against Asian American LGBTQ employees “is persistent and widespread,” the study found. Researchers analyzed survey data collected in the summer of 2023 to examine the workplace experiences of Asian American LGBTQ adults, according to a news release about the study.

“The lifetime experiences of discrimination and harassment among Asian American LGBTQ employees are particularly high, considering that almost two-thirds are under the age of 35,” the study’s lead author, Brad Sears, distinguished senior scholar of law and policy at the institute, said in the release. “Not only do they have fewer years of work experience from which to encounter adverse events, but many of them live and work on the West Coast, where there are more protective laws and policies for LGBTQ workers.”

Contributing to this issue are the facts that there is no national law that explicitly prohibits sexual orientation or gender identity discrimination and that close to half the states have no laws that do this either, Sears told Out In Jersey in an interview."

Supreme Court bolsters parental-religious demands to erase LGBTQ people and stories in public schools

"In a 6 to 3 decision, the Alito-led majority ruled that a group of six parents and an unincorporated group to support parental opt-out policies in Montgomery County, Maryland, public schools “are likely to succeed” at the district court level with their challenge. In doing so, the high court reversed a district court’s denial of a preliminary injunction against Montgomery County’s enforcement of its “no opt-out” policy for parents objecting to storybooks with LGBTQ characters being included among many other books of various topics for English literature classes."

Happy Pride!

We have existed before cameras.
We have existed before marriage.
We have existed before every God ever imagined into existence.
We will exist long after all of these things have disappeared and been replaced with new items. We are forever.
Believe it or not you are not brain washed into being gay or straight it’s just the way we are.
