Mistah Wilson is a local artist and former foster kid who grew up in Los Angeles County. Born in Lynwood, CA in January of 1990, Mistah Wilson would end up in Pasadena, CA on a street called Wilson Avenue as a he was moved around quite a bit in foster care. Having been through so much in his life, Wilson has persevered through some of the toughest odds. From neglect and mental health issues to homelessness and substance abuse, Mistah Wilson has not given up. Rather, even through his struggle, has demonstrated consistency and resilience as he continues to work toward his vision of a united local music scene.
In April 2008, Mistah Wilson was released from youth probation and declared ‘thawilsonblock’ to be the title of his “record label” (at the time), or ‘brand’, if you will. He then launched ‘thawilsonblock network’ that enabled local artists to upload their music/art and be featured as an artist. In 2013, thawilsonblock network evolved into thawilsonblock magazine and spent the first 67 issues as a monthly release every 10th. Wilson soon thereafter created the formal ‘Pasadena Music Scene’ to send the message loud and clear that his work with thawilsonblock has everything to do with local arts & culture.
thawilsonblock magazine started as a creative project Mistah Wilson used to exercise his creative engine. After 2 years of releasing consecutive monthly issues, Mistah Wilson decided to turn thawilsonblock magazine into a business since he was confident in the consistency of new re-curring issues.
Today, thawilsonblock magazine stands as a weekly digital publication that is committed to the local arts. We help share the story of the local artist and provide consulting services and referrals to aid in artist’s development.
