Forecast update. Expect heavy rainfall rates into the evening.

From The Weather Prediction Center 1:45pm Saturday. A slow-moving line of heavy showers and thunderstorms across northeast MS, northern AL, northwest GA, and middle TN may lead to isolated to scattered flash flooding through early evening. Very moist and unstable conditions—with CAPE values of 1500–2500 J/kg and precipitable water up to 2.25 inches—are supporting rainfall rates of 2–3 inches per hour. Favorable wind patterns are allowing storms to back-build and train over the same areas, increasing localized flood risk with potential totals of 3–5 inches. While coverage may remain limited, conditions are favorable for continued heavy rainfall in some areas. .

Forecast update. The First Alert Weather Day will expire at 5:30pm this evening. We expect heat index values to fall into the upper 90s around sunset. We are watching a boundary of deep tropical moisture that will move in from the south overnight. This will set the stage for scattered showers and storms into the weekend. Expect locally heavy rainfall with some areas getting up to 2” of rain in thirty minutes. This could lead to street flooding. Watch the lightning with these storms if you have outdoor plans. Highs in the lower 90s Saturday and Sunday. The middle 90s will return next week along with isolated afternoon and early evening storms.
