The Town of Taos Events Division is excited to host Movies on the Green Community Day, a free, family-centered celebration taking place on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Kit Carson Park, located at 211 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, Taos, NM. Sponsored by Taos News, the evening will conclude with a special outdoor screening of Moana 2 starting at 8:30 PM.
As part of the popular Movies on the Green summer series, this annual Community Day brings together residents and visitors for a fun, safe, and alcohol-free evening event. Families are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets to enjoy an unforgettable celebration of the Taos community.
The event kicks off at 3:30 PM with upbeat DJ sets by New Mex Records, energizing the park and setting the tone for an afternoon full of activities. From 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM, families can enjoy two free attractions: the Fun Slide, a thrilling ride with rolling hills, and the Fun House, a whimsical walk-through experience featuring interactive challenges. Both attractions are designed to delight children and adults alike while ensuring a safe, family-friendly environment.
Starting at 5:00 PM, local food vendors and community booths will open. Food offerings will include delicious selections from Cocina Mariposa, Dyani’s Kettle Corn, Loteria Paleteria Hecho in Taos, Mystic Dance, and Sweet Popping Kettle Corn. While there is no official closing time for the food vendors, they will remain open as long as supplies last and the crowd stays hungry.
Also, beginning at 5:00 PM, a variety of community organizations will host booths offering face painting, games, giveaways, a photo booth, and valuable information. Participants include Acutetremonts Face Painting, Calvary Taos, Community Against Violence, D.C. Barrone Photography, Friends of the Taos Public Library, Girl Scouts, Guadalupe Credit Union, Mountain Home Health Care Inc., Taos Behavioral Health / Nonviolence Works, Inc., Taos Ski Valley, Inc., Town of Taos HR Department, Town of Taos Events Division/Community Events Volunteers, She Loves Too Clean LLC, UNM-Taos, and Youth Heartline.
From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, attendees will also enjoy live music from El Grupo Mezcal whose vibrant performance will bring even more energy and fun to the evening. During this time, there will be a special appearance by Moana, offering children the chance to meet their favorite oceanic heroine. Thanks to D.C. Barrone Photography, families can capture these magical moments with professional photos.
Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Moana characters and the first five kids in costume will receive a special prize. Additionally, the first 400 children to arrive will receive a free drawstring backpack. Free face painting will be provided by Acutetremonts Face Painting who is generously donating her time and artistic talents.
At 8:30 PM, the much-anticipated outdoor showing of Moana 2 will be projected on a large video wall. Please note this is a special start time just for this event. The film will offer the perfect family-friendly ending to an evening filled with fun, community, and connection.
Get ready for a thrilling ride down the Fun Slide a classic favorite for families and kids of all ages. Stretching approximately 110 to 120 feet long and 15 to 20 feet wide, this giant slide promises high-speed fun with gentle rolling hills from top to bottom. Riders must be seated at all times during the descent for safety. Children 32" and taller may ride with an adult, while those 42" and taller can ride solo. This attraction is perfect for creating unforgettable laughs and memories. Whether you are racing your friends or enjoying the ride with your child, the Fun Slide delivers excitement from start to finish.
Step inside the Fun House for a wacky adventure full of surprises. Spanning 45 feet wide, 16 feet deep, and 15 feet tall, this walk-through attraction is packed with interactive elements and silly challenges that the whole family can enjoy. Featuring a classic Rolling Barrel and five unique trick elements, every step brings a new twist. Guests must be at least 32" tall to enter, and shoes are required—no bare feet allowed. From spinning floors to moving walkways, the Fun House is all about laughter, balance, and good times in a safe, family-friendly environment.
