Know the name of this rock formation near Pringle? South Dakota Magazine is hosting a trivia contest at the state fair on Sunday (August 31) at 3:30 p.m. on the Freedom Stage. We're lining up a North Team (anyone who lives north of Highway 14) and a South Team. Plus we'll have questions for the audience. Message us if you'd like to be on a team on stage. Or just show up. You could win a t-shirt, books or cap! See you in Huron this weekend. We'll be hanging out near the Horizon's Hall — plus singer Sherwin Linton has invited us to join him now and then on the Centennial Stage.

"The best way for me to write is to spend a lot of time out on the road. Writing is far easier and far more fun if you have good material, and the best way to find material is to go looking for it," said Bernie Hunhoff '74, who is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his magazine, the South Dakota Magazine. Since its founding in 1985, Bernie and his team have published over 240 issues celebrating the people, places and spirit of South Dakota.

It’s always fascinating to see our state through someone else’s eyes. We’ve had the incredible privilege of doing just that, not through a single lens, but through so many unique perspectives.

We treasure the feedback from our readers so much that we've dedicated an entire wall to the meaningful words you’ve shared with us over the years. Your voices remind us why we do what we do.

Some people wonder how long we can keep telling new stories and discovering new places. But South Dakotans always find a way to remind us, there’s no end in sight. As long as we have people willing to share their time, talents, and tales, we’ll never run out of stories worth telling.

As many of you may know, this year marks our 40th year in print!🥳 We hope you'll join us in celebrating this Friday at The Boat House - Yankton, from 6-9 pm.

We want to say thank you, truly. We've made it this far because of you. Your support, your stories, and your enthusiasm mean everything to us.
