National Safe Boating Week

In acknowledgment of National Safe Boating Week, we wanted to provide you with some safety tips to ensure everyone has a safe year on the water.

-Make sure you have all the required safety equipment onboard before you launch and ensure the equipment is clean and serviceable.

-Carry enough personal flotation devices (PFD) for every passenger and ensure children 12 and under are always wearing theirs. All PFD’s must be in serviceable condition and appropriate size for the person wearing it.

-Check and obey the load capacity of your vessel. Loading and powering vessels beyond safe operating ability is dangerous and illegal.

-Never boat under the influence. Alcohol and drug use severely hinder judgment, balance, coordination, and reaction time — making impaired boating a dangerous and potentially deadly choice.

-Check your local regulations before going out. In Ocean Shores, when occupying or operating canoes, kayaks, personal watercraft, and similar type vessels you must always wear your PFD. These vessels must also have sound producing devices onboard.

To ensure we all have a safe and enjoyable season on the water, please call ahead if you have any questions and reports waterway violations when you see them.
